I bought the Ubuntu GNU/Linux version of this laptop so I could actually get some work done; I'm very happy with it. My last laptop was a 13" 2013 MacBook Pro, which is slightly larger and heavier than this laptop. At first, I was worried that the XPS 13 is *too* small. Part of this impression is the 16:9 aspect ratio of the screen, which is less than ideal; incidentally this is improved in the Spring 2020 ("New") version of this model, which boasts a 16:10 display. However, I got used to the size in just a couple of days and now appreciate its ultra-portability. The small form factor does not detract from its performance. The 10th generation Intel i7 CPU comes with 12 cores which is incredible for multi-tasking and concurrent programming. Database, natural language processing, and image processing applications will go far with this CPU.
The integrated graphics are a disappointment but a necessary compromise to get a laptop that is this small and *totally quiet.* There is absolutely no fan noise except under high CPU loads, particularly when the integrated graphics are in use--but not for any desktop windowing operations. The animations in the GNOME Desktop, for instance, are smooth and handled with total ease.
Some of the nicest features about this hardware are the small little tweaks like a battery indicator on the side of the chassis that can be used when the laptop is closed; there is a wide LED indicator on the side of the chassis just under the touchpad that lights up when charging and changes color when the battery is low; the keyboard and palmrest are clean, sharp, and attractive; the top lid has just enough clearance that the keyboard doesn't seem to touch the screen (and transfer oils to the display). At first, I felt that the Left Control key is too far to the left of the keyboard, but this seems to be standard on most Dell keyboards of this era, and you get used to it.
Overall, the design quality rivals that of Apple MacBooks when they were at their best (not now), which is hard to find in a laptop that ships with a GNU/Linux operating system.
I bought this xps 13 less than a month ago and the wifi keeps going out for no reason, I have fixed it once myself and I had to call 2x to get it "fixed" and it keeps doing it so I am going to return this laptop which looks good but unfortunately doesn't work. Its a shame

I am a home user who had switched from Dell PCs and laptops (1990s-2000s) to a competitor about three years ago. I thought that purchasing a less expensive system in a local store would be more affordable and convenient. However, the other system's power connection has failed twice in three years, costing me hundreds of dollars in repair costs. I'm fixing the old system for my husband, but I've come back home to Dell, whose products and service are second to none!
