Great machine. A few settings are hard to find

The XPS 13 does everything I expected, and it does it well. I'm a strong user of keystroke controls, and I miss some of the standard Win 10 keyboard behaviour. I miss the dedicated context menu key (now combined awkwardly with the right Ctrl key). I'll find the settings some day, but as delivered, the Function keys (F1-F12) don't work as expected. F5 doesn't refresh, and F2 doesn't edit selected fields. The second functions of those keys (speaker volume etc.) don't work with the Fn key as expected, but rather with the Alt key - What is the Fn key for, if it doesn't do that? I expect to fix this some day, but it seems strange to deliver the computer this way.

4 stars b/c 5 is just too rare to throw around. Laptop performs w/o any problems. It would have been nice to have an additional USB port and USB A/C adapter for my home docking setup. The additional cost (size,$) should not be large given the high unit price. Bought laptop, monitor and DVD drive and chose Dell b/c of past reliability.

DISAPPOINTING

The fan still makes noise even after taking to dell support center for repairs. It also overheat when in use and more especially when charging. The battery reader icon continues to show inconsistent readings. It could read 97% for 5hrs 15min. In about 30 mins it will read 93% 11hr 20mins and few minutes later it will show 95% 2 hrs 21mins. This is really bad

Hello, thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you have had some issues that are taking away from your experience. Here is a list of recommendations to try to help.

For the fan noise, The XPS 13 7390 BIOS update for fan performance was included in revision 1.3.1 – however, there is a more recent BIOS that contains critical security updates that should be used in place. Here is a link to get started. https://dell.to/2yymQtX

For the overheating, Tips for Proper Usage:

1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

I bought this laptop a week ago. First day, my laptop and adapter was equally hot. Then after, my laptop is so good, but my adapter is really hot, that I couldn't even touch.

We appreciate your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I am sorry to hear that the computer's ac adapter is running hot to the point of being too hot to touch. I recommend unplugging it and allowing it to cool. It is normal for an adapter to run warm but not too hot to touch.

If the issue persists, I suggest you contact Dell's support. http://dell.to/2sH7Qlm or 1-800-624-9896 so that we can troubleshoot with you.

Here is a link to the support page for your computer where you can find the most up to date drivers and download updates that may be available for your laptop https://dell.to/2WxgyEb

Dell 7390 is a really well constructed ultranotebook. It fells super solid and was such a good experience typing on it in addition to its responsive trackpad. On the other hand, it comes with a very powerful i7 processor comet lake which means it is quite fast at the cost of getting hot some times. Overall coming from a Mac Book Pro to this super light! and powerful laptop has been a easy decision. More bang for less investment!

the touch screen that was put on this laptop stopped working
on July 14, 2020

I bought this laptop for school and in the weeks that I have been using is for miscellaneous everyday stuff before school starts, the touch screen has stopped working when I specifically put a 4k touchscreen on this computer. The keyboard is shallow for my taste especially after my Chromebook which had higher keys, but even my 200$ Chromebook was able to keep the touchscreen after multiple drops when all I've done is reset this computer a few times. When the touch screen did work it would also glitch out a few times, meaning it would access tabs and stopp videos when I wasn't even touching the screen. I wouldn't be able to use my computer for a few mins during that time. Of course with the touchscreen not working I don't have that problem but I shouldn't have that problem to begin with. As this is my first dell laptop I am a bit disappointed. The laptop tends to heat up a bit especially when you have it plugged in with the charger, turning the on fan which is also quite loud. However since I am not a particularly picky individual I tend to get over things like the sound of the fan quickly but it does irk me that the screen that I paid extra money for doesn't work. The scroll speed of a page tends to slow down when there are more than 10 tabs open on google chrome. The laptop works well overall but I would be mindful of these problems.
