XPS 7390 review

I’m having trouble with the sensitivity of the trackpad. I’ve read suggestions from Dell and Microsoft and tried them, but it’s not resolved. As a solution I’ve purchased a trackball mouse that I can put on my chair arm. This is a minor problem, but it’s worth knocking the rating down a peg.

Great! except the audio.

Everything is very good, except the audio. I would call the audio "unusable" for communication. I tested it with Zoom. The speakers are too quiet to hear the other side in a typical business environment. But they do work. The microphone will pick up my deep voice during a call. But it will not pick up my wife's voice. On the other side her voice comes through intermittently, and all you hear is partial syllables. Not sure if it's zoom or the machine, but I've never had a problem like this on any other hardware. I spent an hour+ fiddling with settings to fix this without any success. I also tested the speakers by listening to music, and that also confirmed these are quiet speakers. Granted one could fix all this by using a headset.
Screen looks great. The keyboard is maybe slightly heavy for my tastes. I love the small size and design of it.

Overall the laptop was awesome. Only needs improvement with the speaker volume as it is so low that I cannot even hear the live call at maximum volume.

The most important this device suffers from is the noisy fan, at very simple tasks like browsing internet, the fan start to rocketing like never. Screen is far under expectation, color richness and pixels aspects. With world now moving into working from home, I find these long standing issues needs to be solved immediately by DELL.

Potential Video Issue
on February 2, 2021

Video card or display will act up by briefly going black, streaky gray or like a TV that lost its signal. Sometimes clears up by itself or requires powering laptop down. A different XPS 13 WiFi card had issues connecting to 5GHz wireless connection. Not seeing this same problem on this one yet.

I mainly liked the laptop, but the trackpad is atrocious. Also the lack of USB ports is a little problematic, but The connector included is fine enough.
