Ordered a 5GB WD Elements for Mac Time Machine backup. Worked so well that I ordered a second WD Elements 5GB for a second Mac. USB is faster that expected and all has been smooth. Happy with my WD purchase and speed of shipment.

I've been using WD external hard drives over the past 15 years. I have never had any issue. It's amazing to simply trust these devices. I know all my precious files and documents are always safe and available.

It arrived as a brick - completely unusable.

It arrived as a brick. The only things about it that work are the ridiculous licensing agreement and the LED on the case.
It won't work on a Mac without reformatting and it won't allow me to reformat it. This is the second Western Digital Product I've had a problem with. No more WD for me.
I just tried to submit this review and they even have a "terms and conditions" statement you have to check before you can submit a review. Western Digital must only hire lawyers. They certainly don't seem to have any engineers.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Please let us confirm that WD Elements Portable is a plug and play device which comes preformatted in the NTFS file system for Windows operating system. If you are using a Mac computer, then the drive needs to be formatted in the HFS+J file system for operation. If you want to use it on a Cross-Platform (Windows or MacOS) then it should be Formatted into EXfat to use it.
