Coolest Lego yet

This is by far the coolest Lego product I have ever bought! It is a piano with 25 working keys, a sustain pedal, a working bench, fall board, lid, and music stand, and you can connect your phone to it to move the keys as you listen or play the keys to a prerecorded song. The building instructions were easy to follow and, as a piano player, I had an amazing time building inner workings of the piano and seeing how precise they are. I also love how you can remove the keyboard and check out how it works from the inside. I think the amount of pieces goes really well for a great build and the size is perfect for all the details that it has. Though it is pretty pricey (and I used money saved for 2 years to buy it), it is totally worth it, and it makes for a great display. I would totally recommend it!

Very Misleading!

I was lucky enough to be able to buy this set, as I know it sold out nearly instantly everywhere. However, not all is as it seems. After building the lego set and connecting it to the app-playable function, I was deeply insulted to realise that this is, in fact, not a piano that you can actually play. That's right, this is a "playable piano," but not a piano you can play. Just writing this review is making me even more angry. All you can do is connect the piano to the very limited number of songs on the app, and you have two options. The first is to get the piano to play itself, in which music will come out of your phone, and random keys will repeatedly press down/up in a completely arbitrary pattern, to perhaps give the illusion, to those less familiar with musical instruments, that the piano is playing itself? I dunno. Nonetheless, the order in which the keys press down is in no way related to the sound coming out of your phone. Your second option is to set the piano so that the sound that will come out of your phone is based upon when you hit each key. However, this option is just as rediculous because no matter what key you press, the same sound will come out of your phone to continue the song. Also, the way the piano was built to work with the sensor makes it so that you cannot press keys in a rapid succession (if you press multiple keys at the same time/in a rapid succession the sensor will read it as only one key being pressed), and you cannot hold one key down while pressing another. Perhaps the worst part of it was that lego was, for whatever reason, unable to allow you to download/program your own songs to be played out of your phone when you press the keys! It would have been ridiculously easy to convert many other pop songs to this "play next part when any key is pressed down" system, yet it seems lego decided not to even do this. Honestly the way they advertised this product and misled the consumer is something I would expect out of your average company, but not lego. This truly is a sad day for lego history, and I do hope fans make enough of a fuss for lego to never make this kind of a marketing mistake again.

Motor doesn't work :(

Build was overall great except for the motor that came with the set. It fails to spin without being given a little push first.

VERY disappointing and misleading
on December 27, 2020

I wouldn’t be so upset had Lego not deceptively marketed this product as being able to do something it could not. A lot of money spent and time invested to find that in contrast to the advertising:
1) The PIANO DOES NOT PLAY SOUND. Sound is played via your smartphone or tablet’s speakers when using the Lego app paired to the piano. No smartphone/tablet, no sound.
2) The KEYS DO NOT PLAY IN SYNC TO NOTES ON THE SHEET MUSIC. There is just the same random movement no matter which song you are playing. The KEYS DO NOT CORRESPOND TO THE NOTES.
3) When playing the piano, ANY KEY PRODUCES THE SAME NOTE SOUND REQUIRED IN THE SONG. A preloaded song appears for you to “play,” and as you hit any note on the piano, the song progresses. YOU DON’T REALLY PLAY A PIANO.
While it was neat to build, it was an absolute disappointment that it didn’t live up to the hype Lego made about it. Shame on you, Lego. Never have I ever felt deceived by you all like this. If you all had been upfront about how it really worked, I would not have purchased it. Too late now.

Working piano????

Let's put on our thinking caps for a minute and think about Lego and what they are made out of. Plastic. I have never had any of my Lego blocks make a musical sound, so how did you expect this build to? This is an incredible build and design.

MISSING PIECES
on January 3, 2023
Posted by: Jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This set had 53 pieces of one type missing from the build. Totally unacceptable for any set much less one that cost $400.00. Piano does not work as advertised. Judging from the other reviews I have read it's not a one off. Lego is driving customers away with over promising and not delivering a solid product.

All the right notes

This was overall a fun build. I have been having a bad run of luck lately with my last 5 builds missing pieces. Fortunately this go around there was only one missing piece.
Once the model is completed it's pretty beautiful. I have two minor gripes. My gold bars that represent the strings more bent when packing. I've tried to bend them back but it causes a hammers on the strings to get stuck. Not that big a deal I can live with it.
@Lego please consider adding a rubber band or something to slightly extend the Technic piece that stops the key motor from turning backwards and a certain point (resets the key position). Pressing the button application to reset the keys , the gears over rotate slightly because the stopping Technic pieces not long enough by a cm. So the keys are never flush when you reset them. Not being able to make the keys level detract from the beauty of this set. It seems like it would be a simple fix.
I do hope they will add more music to the application. If there's ever a version 2 of this piano, would it be possible to add light sensors to every single key? By doing this the application can know exactly what key was pressed and what sound that key should make. However this may make the sent extremely expensive. There may not be enough room in the piano to have 25 individual sensors.
The finished product is beautiful and display well. Even with the minor issues it was a lot of fun. In the end you won't be disappointed with with this model.
Looking forward to my next challenge

It was okay
on August 9, 2020

It was fun to build. However, the motor makes a high pitch loud noise and does not function very well. It does not rotate sometimes which was frustrating. The design was okay, it would be nice if I can actually play it like a real piano. Not worth the price.

Oh no, it's no fun if your motor isn't working well. We'd love to help you out with this. Please get in touch at LEGO.build/Service-BV so we can do some troubleshooting and find out what might be the problem.
