Best Lego yet!

I gave the Lego Grand Piano kit to my 80+ year old husband and we have LOVED building it. It is complex enough to keep us engaged. We marvel at the designers who have created such an interesting model that really plays music. We had some initial problems with the Power Up app but the customer service folks were very helpful and resolved our issue. We have built the Sydney Opera House, the roller coaster, trains, cranes and many other buildings but this is by far our favorite. We highly recommend it!

Amaaaaazing!!

We have room dedicated to Legos in our home and my husband and kids are Lego fanatics. Yet, this was MY first set and I absolutely loved building it. I'm a musician by trade, a pianist and band teacher teacher. I love the detail and I loved seeing it come together. I purposely took my time to build this to savor all the fine details. I'm in awe. I do have one complaint, why don't they use the correct written music in the app? They have the music on the Lego part that sits on the piano, but none of the songs actually match what is being played in the app. This seems like a small detail that was overlooked and can still be remedied. Everything else is better than hoped for.

Well constructed and good looking

This is a wonderful LEGO addition. The build was a bit repetitive, but it's a piano so that should be expected. I do have two suggestions. [1} the LEGO software is very difficult to shut down. I had to turn off my I-phone12 to get the program to stop running. [2} serious suggestion: The wheels should be gold. Look at the the picture of the real piano in the instructions. The wheels are bright brass. In the model they are black and there is plenty of that already. Gold colored wheels would set this model off a lot. If you decide to do this, send me a set of wheels!

Most Unique Lego Build To Date

As an Adult Fan Of Lego I mostly build the large creator sets, advanced technic sets, and some of the larger Star Wars sets. Up to now I would say I had the most fun building the roller coaster because it was just so different from anything else. The Lego Grand Piano may have just bumped that from the number one spot. This was a fascinating build from beginning to end. As a piano player myself, I was impressed with the intricate attention to detail. The finished product is stunning to look at. When I first saw this set on the Lego Ideas site I thought if Lego ever decides to make an official set of this project I'm sure they will "dumb it down" a bit. Not so. Kudos for staying so true to the original idea. As far as the two complaints I keep reading about: 1. I understand the frustration with it being out of stock so soon, but I have run into that myself before and sometimes you just have to be patient. I'm sure the pandemic is responsible to some degree. 2. If you thought that this was going to play like a real piano you weren't paying attention at all. If you watched the designer video or read almost anything online ahead of time you would (SHOULD) have known exactly what this model was capable of. Contrary to all the whiners, I am impressed by the "playability" that was added to the original design. Thank you Lego for another great Ideas set. You have had some true winners lately with the fishing store, the pirates ship, and the treehouse. Please keep making advanced sets like this.

Best idea so far!

I love this build so much. It took me a few hours and days but in the end it was well worth it. Watching the piano self play made this even better, knowing there were no mistakes made. Plus this is a perfect display piece for Hermione.

Fun build and show piece

Took 3 days to build(do to life events). It was a fun and great build. A build that makes me love Legos still at my age. It's at my work as a show piece. Everyone love it's. It's a talking piece. I always show everyone how it actually plays. My son loves it as well. Highly recommend it, even for its price. It's a great piece of art.

Great Experience
on February 7, 2024

I received this set as a gift. I had absolutely no experience building with Legos, so I was quite apprehensive about tackling a large project such as this piano. Once I got started, it really went pretty well. I am a pianist myself, so I understood the mechanics of what I was building. I was very careful with the moving parts, especially the keys (which were extremely tedious). I made sure everything was tight. And as I was assembling the keyboards, I made sure that there was no "sticky" action. As a result, everything works perfectly! The key action is smooth and the key reset works great. If a 68 year-old grandma can build this with no previous experience, that's quite a testament to the ingenious folks at Lego for their expert engineering, manufacturing , and tech manual writing!

⚠️ READ THE ONE STAR REVIEWS BEFORE PURCHASING! ⚠️

Verified Purchase:No
I actually only gave this set five stars in the hopes that some of you loyal LEGO customers won't miss the negatives regarding this set, and wind up wasting your time with it. And so, here are those negatives...
The piano itself does not play any music. The sound of the music comes out of whatever device you are using with their Powered Up app. And no, you can't create your own music or choose your favorite songs to be played. The app has two modes, 'Listen' and 'Play.' And even after all of this time, the 'Listen' mode has 20 songs to choose from, and the 'Play' mode has 9 songs to choose from (at the time of this review).
Now, for the 'Listen' mode, the piano keys automatically move as a song plays. However, if you are under the impression that the keys move while matching the right music notes, then you will be disappointed... No, it looks like the keys just keep moving in the same order, to give the impression that the piano is playing the music.
As for the 'Play' mode, you can't really play the actual notes in the songs like you might expect to. Because the way that it works is that you just press any key and it triggers the next sound in the selected song. And the reason that it works that way is because there's just one optical sensor that detects when any key is pressed.
Now, putting all of that aside, this is still an extraordinary build and a lot of fun can be had just building it. And it might be a little challenging for some builders. Also, some builders should consider that it's possible they have made a slight mistake somewhere even if they are absolutely sure that they haven't. I know, because it has happened to me a few times over the years, lol.
But anyway, my conclusion is that LEGO could have saved themselves from a lot of negative feedback if they had just provided more information about the things that I just mentioned. I mean, that's what I mainly wanted to know about this set. And I'm willing to bet that's what a lot of other people mainly wanted to know about it. But don't worry LEGO, I still love you! I just hope y'all can someday convince Paramount to let y'all make Star Trek sets before this human vessel that I'm inhabiting reaches the end of it's lifespan, lol...
