To all the haters of this set:

You guys all say that this set is stupid because you can't actually play the piano. Well, in the specifications it CLEARLY states that you can "Pretend to play along". It literally says that you can't actually play the song with the keys, you PRETEND. Also, from what I know, it would be quite hard to make the keys periodically play the actual notes. There aren't enough keys on the piano to do that, so it would have to be way bigger. It's not very fair to condemn Lego when they have tons of amazing sets. Yes, there are some flaws, but it's better than I, or most anyone could do. I also think it's dumb for you to just go through and click on one star for everything. You say you have many sets, but you put one star on your play experience. Give an honest report for the people who are actually wondering if they should buy this set.

We have room dedicated to Legos in our home and my husband and kids are Lego fanatics. Yet, this was MY first set and I absolutely loved building it. I'm a musician by trade, a pianist and band teacher teacher. I love the detail and I loved seeing it come together. I purposely took my time to build this to savor all the fine details. I'm in awe. I do have one complaint, why don't they use the correct written music in the app? They have the music on the Lego part that sits on the piano, but none of the songs actually match what is being played in the app. This seems like a small detail that was overlooked and can still be remedied. Everything else is better than hoped for.

Well constructed and good looking

This is a wonderful LEGO addition. The build was a bit repetitive, but it's a piano so that should be expected. I do have two suggestions. [1} the LEGO software is very difficult to shut down. I had to turn off my I-phone12 to get the program to stop running. [2} serious suggestion: The wheels should be gold. Look at the the picture of the real piano in the instructions. The wheels are bright brass. In the model they are black and there is plenty of that already. Gold colored wheels would set this model off a lot. If you decide to do this, send me a set of wheels!

⚠️ READ THE ONE STAR REVIEWS BEFORE PURCHASING! ⚠️

Verified Purchase:No
I actually only gave this set five stars in the hopes that some of you loyal LEGO customers won't miss the negatives regarding this set, and wind up wasting your time with it. And so, here are those negatives...
The piano itself does not play any music. The sound of the music comes out of whatever device you are using with their Powered Up app. And no, you can't create your own music or choose your favorite songs to be played. The app has two modes, 'Listen' and 'Play.' And even after all of this time, the 'Listen' mode has 20 songs to choose from, and the 'Play' mode has 9 songs to choose from (at the time of this review).
Now, for the 'Listen' mode, the piano keys automatically move as a song plays. However, if you are under the impression that the keys move while matching the right music notes, then you will be disappointed... No, it looks like the keys just keep moving in the same order, to give the impression that the piano is playing the music.
As for the 'Play' mode, you can't really play the actual notes in the songs like you might expect to. Because the way that it works is that you just press any key and it triggers the next sound in the selected song. And the reason that it works that way is because there's just one optical sensor that detects when any key is pressed.
Now, putting all of that aside, this is still an extraordinary build and a lot of fun can be had just building it. And it might be a little challenging for some builders. Also, some builders should consider that it's possible they have made a slight mistake somewhere even if they are absolutely sure that they haven't. I know, because it has happened to me a few times over the years, lol.
But anyway, my conclusion is that LEGO could have saved themselves from a lot of negative feedback if they had just provided more information about the things that I just mentioned. I mean, that's what I mainly wanted to know about this set. And I'm willing to bet that's what a lot of other people mainly wanted to know about it. But don't worry LEGO, I still love you! I just hope y'all can someday convince Paramount to let y'all make Star Trek sets before this human vessel that I'm inhabiting reaches the end of it's lifespan, lol...

For those who wrote just a one or two star review, remember, this is a toy, don’t expect features that you would normally pay hundreds more for in a real piano, like playing specific notes, keys really sounding a tone, keys moving exactly to the music, etc. Lego has built this as a fantastic toy and it does a splendid job of MIMICKING a real piano, be thankful for the tunes and engineering that went into the product! If you want something that can do most of the features of a real piano, GO BUY ONE ! And btw, I am an accomplished pianist (I have a Yamaha Clavinova).

A joy, a tragedy, back to joy

I completed the piano some months ago. Ready to attack the bench to finish the project, I sat the piano on a tray table just to fool with the mechanics. Open the lid, hit some keys, fold back the music stand. To my horror, I watched the piano roll off the table (it has swivel wheels that work VERY well), flip over, and hit the floor. It wasn’t completely smashed but mostly smashed. I gathered up any intact sections and all the individual bits I could find. And put it all away. I was heartbroken and just didn’t feel the energy to dive right back in. I left it for months. Just this week I got up the courage to bring it back to life. Some sections needed to be torn down to single pieces and rebuilt from scratch. Which was fine because I remembered how much I enjoy building this stuff! So, piano, and bench, are complete. AGAIN. It’s a fantastic build, and an engineering marvel. Hours and hours of joy. Heartache too, but that was all my fault. Now, I’m looking for the next project. My wife has firmly rejected The Titanic. Rats!

Great kit…looks tremendous

I really enjoyed building the Grand Piano. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Final build looks just tremendous! Yes…it is not a player piano but a complex kit that does mimic a real piano. Those who say it is not a real piano need to understand that 25keys does not a real piano make! That being said…the keys and hammers do work…the music selection is cool and the Lego PowerUp really does work. I am speechless at the engineering that went into this! Well done Lego!

Very Misleading!

I was lucky enough to be able to buy this set, as I know it sold out nearly instantly everywhere. However, not all is as it seems. After building the lego set and connecting it to the app-playable function, I was deeply insulted to realise that this is, in fact, not a piano that you can actually play. That's right, this is a "playable piano," but not a piano you can play. Just writing this review is making me even more angry. All you can do is connect the piano to the very limited number of songs on the app, and you have two options. The first is to get the piano to play itself, in which music will come out of your phone, and random keys will repeatedly press down/up in a completely arbitrary pattern, to perhaps give the illusion, to those less familiar with musical instruments, that the piano is playing itself? I dunno. Nonetheless, the order in which the keys press down is in no way related to the sound coming out of your phone. Your second option is to set the piano so that the sound that will come out of your phone is based upon when you hit each key. However, this option is just as rediculous because no matter what key you press, the same sound will come out of your phone to continue the song. Also, the way the piano was built to work with the sensor makes it so that you cannot press keys in a rapid succession (if you press multiple keys at the same time/in a rapid succession the sensor will read it as only one key being pressed), and you cannot hold one key down while pressing another. Perhaps the worst part of it was that lego was, for whatever reason, unable to allow you to download/program your own songs to be played out of your phone when you press the keys! It would have been ridiculously easy to convert many other pop songs to this "play next part when any key is pressed down" system, yet it seems lego decided not to even do this. Honestly the way they advertised this product and misled the consumer is something I would expect out of your average company, but not lego. This truly is a sad day for lego history, and I do hope fans make enough of a fuss for lego to never make this kind of a marketing mistake again.
