A fun build

I really enjoyed building the roller coaster but there are a couple of tricks. It's important to make sure the top geared sections (where the tyres are) are very very free flowing as otherwise the roller coaster doesn't work too well. I ended up taking the section off and just fiddling until they all worked very smoothly. It made a BIG difference to the operation of the roller coaster.
Also feeding the chain in needs care - I found the only way at the top was to manually operate the geared section so the chain was pulled through. Also you need to be careful where you start the feeding at the top - it needs to go directly to the wheel under the track element not over it or the chain wont connect.
Built correctly the coaster runs really well. I hope Lego come out with another more advanced version with loops etc - could it be an optional add-on kit, perhaps?

SIP Amusement Park Build

The extended time at home has afforded some serious catch-up on father son Lego build time.... The Roller Coaster was a set we were not at first totally sold on. However, we knew we wanted to build an amusement park, so we made the purchase last year. And now we have time to build! The build was repetitious, but as the coaster began to take shape we were getting excited to run the trains. The final product is nice however the manual power is a little clunky, but still fun to play with and it fits in nice with our Carousel (just built too). It takes up a lot of space, so plan accordingly, the kids and I love it!

I can't tell you how thrilled I was to purchase this set.
It is an absolute joy to build and display. I hope the Lego Group will take on even more challenging and larger roller coaster sets in the future!

Great, challenging build!

The Expert Rollercoaster is brilliantly designed, providing a great deal of challenge and fun at the same time. The completed model is quite large, and has one of the largest footprints of any Lego model currently on the market.
The build itself is broken up into two halves: you essentially build the Rollercoaster in two parts and combine them at the end. The resulting model is surprisingly sturdy yet delicate. Quite a bit of the build are the white supports though, so that can be a little monotonous. Because it does combine some moving/technic elements with the lift chain, great care needs to be taken during these steps, otherwise it may not operate properly at first. Same with all of the support beams, it's quite easy to miscount and miss a few pieces. It's hard to know if you're missing any until you combine the model at the very end. The option to add in the power functions works great as well.
Overall this is a fantastic set.

By far the most thrilling set lego has created!! It's quite the masterpiece for any lego collection! Was very fun to build, also strongly recommended the power pack for smooth operation. Enjoy!!

Favorite Set Ever

This is by and far my favorite LEGO set ever! As a big roller coaster/theme park fan, I had to have this set when it was announced. Both my daughter (5 years) and I worked on this together, and had a great time.
The chain lift and track parts make it a very unique set, which adds to playability and its overall display (proudly set in our living room along with 10247, 10257, and 10244).
The piece count is high on this, so it does take a while to build. A lot of this is taken up with the supports, which are thankfully reinforced and overall fairly sturdy. Our cat has managed to knock some sections off, but they are easy to set back in place once the overall support structure is complete.
It's incredibly helpful that the whole set splits into two main sections, so that it can be easily transported from one room to another. If you have an appropriate space, this is definitely a great set to display!
If you're looking for a more "natural" look, it goes well with any small sets that fit the theme park design. We have added several food carts, stores, and other rides/games to bring out the feel of a running park.
If or when LEGO decides to create more roller coasters, we will be first in line!
