A dream come true, hard to build, eternal play fun

When I saw the announcement for this set I knew I had to have it, no matter what. So my birthday was a good excuse to get the most expensive set for me ever, I paid a little over $400 together with the motor and battery box. And it is worth every penny of it.
The box is huge. I got the largest bag they had in the Lego store and then it was difficult to get into it. At home I opened the box on the right side (seen from the front). With that you have access the the two white internal boxes first. The slightly smaller of the two white boxes containes parts bags for step 1 to 3, everything else is for later built stages.
The build was tough for two reasons: first of all, it takes determination and endurance to finish it. There are a lot of repetitive steps building these poles and connecting bars. But they are not all identical, there are slight variations and it is important to get them right. So it took me a lot of concentration. Also it takes just physical force to build the set, the vertical poles need to be compressed along those 12 axles, and my thumbs recognized the effort.
Then at some point all is done and at last the wagons are built. Since then it's play time! And it's a lot of fun. I keep it going every day and love watching it.
Going forward from here the set provides endless opportunities for extensions. it will keep me busy for years to modify it.
Overall it is just a fantastic set. Get it if you can.

Amazing Roller Coaster!!

My son and I have shared a love for roller coasters since he was little so when I saw this set I ordered it on Day 1.
The attention to detail and engineering are incredible in this set. The fine touches are too numerous to mention, from the park map, the rider height checker, the frightened looks on the riders, the frogs next to a small pond, all the way to a baseball cap on the ground that "fell off" one of the riders.
From a build standpoint, if you want a tall enough roller coaster you have to go through A LOT of repetition with building the ride posts and supports. However, as you go through and get to add track along the way, it is fun watching the coaster grow taller and taller.
For operation, I enjoy both the manual and the powered operation. Lego has brilliantly linked the lift station, lift hill and tires at the top of the lift hill to make the coaster go seamlessly all from one point of control. It is sturdy and has not failed once. My 7 year old is able to operate it without having it come apart. You can even connect the 2 trains to make one long coaster. We have fun together watching it go, and his friends have all wanted to come over and watch as well.
Thank you Lego!

What Fun

This is my first big Lego build and I wasn't disappointed, it became addictive, although I resisted and built it over a number of days. It works really well and is very well constructed. Do look at the pictures very carefully to avoid having to rebuild parts.

You will not be disappointed with this set. Took me a good month being a HVAC tech here only a few hours of work time in a day but the excitement of working on this was like no other set I've built. Really awesome set and easily one of the best sets Lego has released.

Loved this build

I really enjoyed this build. It took a lot longer than expected but then again, I'm not an expert and this was the largest set I have ever built. The mechanics seem to be a little jerky but once I added the m-motor, it was nice and smooth. However, one of the sections of track kept coming loose. I decided to just add a couple of bricks for added support and it worked like a charm. All-in-all, it's a great build.

Incredibly Fun Build

What a fun tine I had building the Roller Coaster. I love that feeling with LEGO when large, odd pieces you construct end up fitting perfectly in the structure and bringing it all together. Every angle makes sense; every little hook or peg is there for a reason.
And, the coaster works perfectly! Smooth and lifelike. Not a monotonous build whatsoever. Even building the pillars vary from unit to unit, and the resulting structure is surprisingly sturdy.
Definitely spring for the Power Functions - it's a blast letting this run itself.
My favorite LEGO build yet.

Get it before it is gone

This is my favorite build so far and with the powered up motor and hub I love to just let it run while I am working on other kits. I was surprised how much fun this one was to build and seeing the track and supporting frame come together was very satisfying. This is not a build it and forget it set; although expensive it is very much worth it to me in the ongoing enjoyment I am getting out of it.

Purchased for me to build and my grandson to play with. Eveyone who has seen it has been amazed at the way everything runs. I was really impressed with how sturdy the whole build is, the instructions are clear but don't rush.
