Fun Build
on January 1, 2024

This is our 3rd modular build. We have done the Jazz Club, Assembly Square prior to this one. This was the easiest build of the three we have done thus far. It was fun, but not quite as detailed as the sets we had previously done. I think for all the modular builds it would be great to have a window wall so you could see in better, maybe something on the side where it connects so it doesn’t take away from the aesthetics of the building. Even it was something you could cover up, it would be cool to able to open it up. For my 7 year old it just is not that fun to play with if you have to take it all apart. These modular builds are really fun and we enjoy doing it as a family, the ability to play is limited for the youngsters. Still glad it has become something we do as a family.

Exciting Set To Build

This set is light years ahead of many other Creator Expert sets in its complexity, creative use of pieces, and building skill demand. Whoever designed this should be given many more projects.

Beautiful Set and Fun Build
on January 22, 2020

Before the release of this kit, I had been out of the modular building game since the Parisian Restaurant. I took one look at the Bookshop and knew this was a must have for the collection. When the set arrived in the mail, the build did not disappoint. The two building setup made this a great kit to build side by side with a friend. The build itself is not terribly complicated, but it's not so repetitive that it gets boring. The first floor of the Bookshop is wonderfully detailed. I especially loved the colors used on the floor. While it is perhaps disappointing there is only one book in this set, it is still unmistakably a bookshop, and the brickbuily bookshelves are cleverly made and look great.
The furniture in this set is brilliant. The two beds and the comfy black chair are standouts, make great use of some of the more recent modified 1x1 tiles. The designers have used the limited space offered by the double building layout very effectively.
The fun range of figures provides for multiple play scenarios, which will delight those interested in this as a plays at over a display piece. The model does lose some height because of the extra interior walls. But the wonderful exterior details and color scheme make this one of the few kits I'll be leaving intact.

Great addition to modular building series
on January 9, 2020

Thank you, Lego Quality Control, for being so proactive. When I opened the box, the first bag was a small, unnumbered one, with 13 identical light gray posts. I looked at the back of the instruction manual, and saw that there are 13 pieces of #4211389 in this set. As I started building the set, it became clear that these were replacement parts for the ones in the numbered bags, because those parts were the wrong shade of light gray – way too light compared with all the other sizes colored light gray. Thanks for recognizing the problem and addressing it from the start. This is a nice set, architecturally consistent with most of the other buildings in the series. The birch tree (including nesting bird) is a great feature, and the building colors and various details make this an enjoyable build. What I really appreciate is that each building has its own base, so the buildings can be easily separated and rearranged with other modular buildings in the series. I just wish the buildings extended deeper in the back, so we could have had more interior space. There’s too much empty space on the rear of the base plates – it makes the buildings seem a bit small. Nonetheless, this is a great addition to the modular building series.

A nice build

I have been collecting the modulars for many years, and I have nearly all of them. I always appreciate when there are new building techniques and design features in the build, and this set doesn't disappoint. I particularly like the way the roof sections come apart/open for play. Very clever. I really like the apartment entry stairs and the wood shingle type roof design as well. I'm not a fan of the dark turquoise/teal color, but I do understand the point was to try to blend into the two most recent modulars. It seems to me a few small details were missing from the exterior (like a light fixture on the apartment patio), but those were easy fixes. I do also wish the bookstore had come with more internal features. I immediately modified the interior to make it more like small bookstores, brimming with books everywhere. The bedroom on the top floor seemed out of place as well. Overall, though, it's a great build.
