Favorite set of all time!

What a joy to build this was. Standout details include the bay window, recliner, clock, standing bookcase, basement, Moby Brick book, and the tree — but really it’s the overall deco and exteriors of the building that make this set so fantastic.
I also love that the top floors of each building have a removable wall, which makes it much easier to take photos.
I really hope this designer makes many more modular buildings!

Cute little set
on August 16, 2021

I was so excited to get this set and put it together. I had a little trouble at first because I thought I was missing pieces. There are two buildings and two instruction manuals, one for each building. There are 19 bags, all labeled 1-9 with some numbers repeating. But the fonts of the numbers on the bags are different so I had assumed that one font was for one building and the other font numbers were for the other building. So I started to build and realized I was missing a ton of pieces. I thought it was a problem with the set, especially after reading some reviews here that said they were missing a ton of pieces, too. So I called Lego customer service and talked to Walter who was just about to see if he could ship me a new set when he asked me if I had opened ALL of the bags labeled number one, even if they had a different font. I had not. So I went back and opened all the bags and turns out that was the problem. So if you think you’re missing a lot of pieces, open all of the same numbered bags first and check even if they look like they should go to another part of the set. This set has some super cute features. I love the building details. I wish there were more Lego books. The “Moby Brick” book is cute, but I wish the inside said “Call me Emmet” instead of “once upon a time.” The cabinet inside the townhome is really cute and I love the orange window seat. I love the stone arch above the bookshop door and I love the staircase to the front door of the townhome. I wish the set was just a little bit bigger. It’s so small that you can’t really play with it, but it will look cute next to the other lego buildings. Overall it’s cute, but with some small changes could have been really awesome.

Beautiful Set

I loved it before I even ordered it. The set looks great on the outside and the inside. I know there are a lot of complaints about “not enough books” or “too small”, but I don’t see what’s wrong about those. Sure, there is only one real book, but the fake books look just as good. And, I think the size is great. I love the minifigures and the props. The only thing it could have that would make it better is a store room. Overall, great set.

Love this set

I've been pining after this set for a few years now but it's more than I would generally spend on my hobbies. However, I recently built the police station with my children and I really appreciated the quality of the build. This one was the same: a quality build with lots of nuance and small features. I also learned a few new building techniques in the process.

Cozy modular delight

I know that some modular fans think this set is a little lackluster, but I don't agree. I love it, and I think it fills a crucial need in the modular line-up.
I'm a huge, huge modular fan myself, but there's something a little off about a modular city: where's the housing?! Yes, I know almost all of the sets have living space in the upper floors, but it's always felt to me that it's a city of amenities where nobody can actually live.
The bookstore itself is cute. I don't love the tree (I do think Lego would be better off sticking to a single season for the entire modular line, or at least making sure every set comes with the pieces necessary to make the trees either summery or autumnal as the owner sees fit). But the bookstore itself is a lovely design.
But I LOVE the townhouse. The teal is a much-appreciated punch of color in the modular line-up, and it just makes me happy seeing that little stoop in my town.
As I said in the title of this review, this is the coziest modular set so far, and I love it for that.

My first modular building!
on July 10, 2021

This was the first set I got after the Central Perk set got me back into the game that is LEGO. I had no idea what I was in for! The Friends one was fun to build but this was fantastic. I really loved building all these little intricate things for the first time. I had had no idea things could look like that. The exterior, for most of the modulars, is the main draw, and that's the case with this one. The interior IS lovely, though, don't get me wrong. Many complain about the lack of books in the book shop but I find it plenty sufficient. The green stairs are so gorgeous. The rooms are so great and efficient. I think my favorite is the little townhouse, though. It reminds my wife and I of our own little apartment in NYC and is really quite cute. The bay windows in the front is probably my favorite feature on any exterior of any modular. I got some cheap LED lights and lit it my own way instead of buying one of those expensive packs, see for yourself how it turned out. It's all so beautiful and was a heck of a way to get into the modular scene. I bought a great many after this, the Diner being my personal favorite, but this one is still terrific.
