So when I first got this set I was really really excited to build this set thank you Lego for making the Death Star once again I love the idea how you came up with the Death Star if only you could have made it look like the Starkiller base

Fun to build, but.....

First, I must say that the designers of this product really outdid themselves. Although the instructions were quite lengthy (as you would expect for a 4000 piece LEGO), everything went into its proper place, there were NO QC issues or missing pieces, and there was very little ambiguity regarding piece placement.
However, I think there should be much more "active shooters" with a set of this magnitude. Unlike some of the other kits, this one has very little in terms of rocket launchers (it would have been awesome to give the turbo laser towers and primary weapon some sort of rocket launch capability...it would greatly improve the playability of the set). As currently sold, the playability of the set comes from the multitude of characters, the moving parts within the Death Star, and the multiple "active stages" for recreating popular movie scenes.
The unit is VERY pricey for what you get. LEGO should make an effort to drop the price on this unit by 10-20%, putting it on par with some of the other complex sets. I would recommend this only to the most die-hard Star Wars fans (with an unlimited budget) that have kids (or grandkids) with very active imaginations. Otherwise, I'd look to some of the lower cost sets that have more bells and whistles, giving you a bigger bang for the buck.

A Challenge to Lego Smug-Lords
on December 10, 2017

Having read so many, 'yawn this is too easy/I'm too awesome' reviews and comments on Lego-building (Star Wars in particular), I would like to lay down a challenge.
I moved countries recently. My beloved Lego Falcon was bundled into a bag and transported 5000 miles. It was smashed to pretty much smithereens. Rebuilding it (without instructions) was more fun and more challenging than putting it together in the first place!
Once finished, I looked for instructions online to see how well I had done...pretty good, but not perfect.
As I was considering raising my own bar by once again smashing my Falcon, this time together with my X-Wing, in one bag, and rebuilding both at once...an idea occured...to seperate the men from the boys. There could be a Lego Star Wars Tournament....
As a child I built a Thunderbird 2 and Ghostbusters Fire Station entirely from scratch, from my imagination, without instruction or reference. Back then I don't think instructions even existed (if so they were laughed at and thrown towards the nearest window). My biggest difficulty was having pieces of the correct colour.
Wouldn't anyone else like to get back to that? One idea. One huge pile of lego. How good are you?
Or is it just me?
:)

It's just there

This was WAY TO EXPENSIVE for the return we got from our son's playtime and excitement. It's a round circle with layers and just lots of plain "rooms." I'm not sure what you call them. Our son played with it for about a half an hour and it has set there untouched for months and months. Just because it cost a lot of money does not make it magical. The only magical thing is how quickly this took your money and gave you nothing in return. Please don't waste your time and money. Buy a product that has moving parts, exciting extras the lego people can play on. Be wise!

What a bad rerelease

I honestly love the original two death stars they were just great, but when I heard this was coming I was excited since I liked the 2008 death star and 2005 death star, I had high expectations, I was very disappointed that it was just the same thing of the 2008 death star with minor changes, and an extra 100 DOLLARS! This was a huge disappointment, since I had the original version, and it should have an exterior where it could open and close, I hope lego can do better in the future.
