Not impressed!

First I have to say I and everyone in my family LOVES Lego!! And this is the only item I have ever given such a poor review of. I also own the last Death Star and I have to say this new one is nothing more than the original one with different figures and a few MINOR improvements. That being said it costs $100 more! If you have the prior Death Star I would skip this one. The changes to this one are not even note worthy in my opinion. If you do not have a Death Star I would consider this one but I feel it is way over priced. So we still love Lego but I wish I could go back in time and skip this set. Cheers!

Great Set, quite expensive

When I was a kid I was overjoyed to unwrap the old Lego Death Star. When this came out, I knew I just had to get it to relive the memories of building it (also the other one broke). The several updated minifigs are what I like best, but the updated rooms are now very detailed and I enjoy that as well. One thing I don't particularly love is that in Palpatine's throne, the steps don't have grey pieces like in the Final Duel set. Overall it was a fun build and very easy to use and play with.

Great set but missing some spirit

This is agreat set to build, but it's too similar to the 10188 set.
I would have loved to see a complete closed spheric death star like the real thing from the movie... it should be completely round and open in the middle to reveal the scenes from the movie inside, but when on display it would only show a big round ball of lego! Some light effect and sound would also be nice.
I know this would be challenging to make for Lego, but would look better and more representative.
Should such a model hit the shelves one day I would be willing to pay some extra to get it!
Think about this challenge Lego!!

Great but Expensive

This set is HUGE with probably the best play value i have seen. For modeling purposes its great on its own but hard to use with other sets because its not proportionate. If your willing to spend a lot of money then this is the set your looking for. If you aren't then i would look elsewhere.

Kinda dissapointing

If we consider this being an improvement over the older model, i honestly have quite some issues with this one.
This overall t is pretty much just a revamp with barely any improvements, with slight issues being:
-Areas in general are not enough detailed for a (UCS) build those days, almost all rooms need way more wall decoration, ground decoration and play features.
-This main elevator is just way to tiny, so is the prison cell...you can not just play around well in those areas unless you have tiny hands, why was the size overall of the build not increased ? Same issue with the overall basement level.
-What is the deal with the overall secondary elevator ? the result is overall not that great to be honest.
Overall i feel this is a great deal if you want to have this as a play set for children who will be less picky about the overall results and have smaller hands to reach in how and wherever they want, since in the end the amount of minifigures and play features is plenty while it is a solid build(only thing that makes me worry are those thin strains of wire that hold both elevator), it is probably also a good investment i guess...but for this being a recent USC build and a revamp of an older one, there could have been done so much more to improve upon the older model.
As decoration piece it kinda fails because it has no stand and there is no true exterior side, only interior and the interior, while having plenty of play features, is visually simply not that pleasing.
As play set for people that are not smaller kids it fails because some interiors are just to tiny.
Further the build itself is not per se challenging or boring...it was a fun way to pass time, but looking at it in the end i would probably never want to do this again. And if it was not for some exclusive features and figures and there is still some majesty to be found in it when presented, i probably would already be planning to sell this thing in 5 years when the value will go up, so in the end, except for a few specific targets i would advice anyone else to do something else with their money that is not buying this particular set.
As soon as this gets an other revamp that has some exterior plates and bigger interiors(probably all at the cost of an increase in price, which i would not mind) and is actually worth it to be considered to be called an improvement, i would be buying it instantly though.

I was surprised to see how many people gave this a 1* review simply because it is a re-release of an older set. It’s almost as if these people don’t know or care that new children are born every day; and some weren’t around when the old set was for sale. My nieces are two such people, and they are thrilled to be able to role play with this amazing set. They like to mix up all different lego themes, so some of the characters from lego Friends find themselves trapped on the Death Star. It is an expensive set, but, IMO, worth every penny.
