Expensive Remake

Spend less and find the older version on the secondary market. It's not worth an extra $100 over that last version. Save yourself what ever you can.

Great set

I got this set for my daughter for Christmas. Had great fun with the build, despite being 503 instructions long I found them clear and easy to follow. The structure is robust and surprisingly stable considering the size of the base.
The kids have loved playing with it; the individual areas are very well-designed and accurately capture the essence of the key scenes.
Looking at the other reviews, I don't think the existence of a similar set in the past detracts in any way from how good this one is.

Why Lego Why?

I got this as A present for my birthday, the persoon who gave me this knows i am A big Lego Star Wars fan but she didn't know i already had The Lego set 10188.
For me it's unbelieveble why Lego die this it's excetly the same as 10188 just A few bricks more! I realy hoped Lego would have done A new design on The Death star and put more efford in it.
My wish for Lego is stop remaking sets like this and design new things.

Thank you for your honest review. We are always looking for way to improve sets, in this case it would be the famous Death Star. This would be our 3rd time making a Death Star. The first time we made and designed the Death Star, it was the Death Star II and it was released 2005. This version you aren’t able to open up and play inside. The second time we made and designed the Death Star was 2008, and as we all know that made the longest run of any LEGO Product, being on our shelves for over 8 years. Within that time there were many updates to not only characters, pieces and even the way we packaged the item. The most recent Death Star is fully updated with new versions of the characters, pieces and packaging.
We do apologize that the new Death Star doesn’t meet your expectations. We will pass along your comments to our Star Wars design team. Hearing what our fans have to say only makes us a better company.

Another LEGO Star Wars price gouge; future Omen?
on October 11, 2016

Like many, my gripe here is not the product itself but the unjustified price point. I don't know whether Disney is now demanding a higher % of profit on their branded items (particularly star wars?) or whether LEGO has made a conscious decision to target Star Wars fan wallets, but a curiously similar absurd price tag was attached to the recent Hoth set. Both, while great agnostic of price, are clear money grabs for whatever reason. The only choice one has in these circumstances is to boycott the ridiculous priced items in favor of those with more value per buck (i.e. smaller sets)

Great Set, quite expensive

When I was a kid I was overjoyed to unwrap the old Lego Death Star. When this came out, I knew I just had to get it to relive the memories of building it (also the other one broke). The several updated minifigs are what I like best, but the updated rooms are now very detailed and I enjoy that as well. One thing I don't particularly love is that in Palpatine's throne, the steps don't have grey pieces like in the Final Duel set. Overall it was a fun build and very easy to use and play with.

Great set but missing some spirit

This is agreat set to build, but it's too similar to the 10188 set.
I would have loved to see a complete closed spheric death star like the real thing from the movie... it should be completely round and open in the middle to reveal the scenes from the movie inside, but when on display it would only show a big round ball of lego! Some light effect and sound would also be nice.
I know this would be challenging to make for Lego, but would look better and more representative.
Should such a model hit the shelves one day I would be willing to pay some extra to get it!
Think about this challenge Lego!!

Great but Expensive

This set is HUGE with probably the best play value i have seen. For modeling purposes its great on its own but hard to use with other sets because its not proportionate. If your willing to spend a lot of money then this is the set your looking for. If you aren't then i would look elsewhere.
