Expensive Remake

Spend less and find the older version on the secondary market. It's not worth an extra $100 over that last version. Save yourself what ever you can.

tick box set
on October 15, 2016

For me this whole set was just a tick box exercise to have a death star with the Disney logo on the box. lets be clear this is simply the previous death star re-branded and re-packaged. I was hoping for something new or significantly bigger and better. 250 pieces more in my eyes is not that. For me this was a great opportunity wasted and smacks of pure laziness

Our favorite set so far
on October 16, 2016

The best part of any LEGO set is the time spent with my son building them. The Death Star has been great to build and even more fun for my son to play out each of the scenes for hours. Having missed out on earlier versions, I wasn't going to pass this one up. Sure, it's an investment, yet worth every penny to see the enjoyment it brings.

Great set
on December 27, 2016

I got this set for my daughter for Christmas. Had great fun with the build, despite being 503 instructions long I found them clear and easy to follow. The structure is robust and surprisingly stable considering the size of the base.
The kids have loved playing with it; the individual areas are very well-designed and accurately capture the essence of the key scenes.
Looking at the other reviews, I don't think the existence of a similar set in the past detracts in any way from how good this one is.

New Death Star 75159
on September 30, 2016

This set is very poor value for money, far to expensive for what is after all a rehash of an old set!

We're really sorry to hear you're unhappy with your new Death Star™. Our new Death Star does have several changes and modifications from its predecessor that we were hoping our fans (and The Empire) would enjoy. We understand that this set is one of our more costly items and I've passed along your feedback about the price!

Thank you for the honest feedback!

I got this as A present for my birthday, the persoon who gave me this knows i am A big Lego Star Wars fan but she didn't know i already had The Lego set 10188.
For me it's unbelieveble why Lego die this it's excetly the same as 10188 just A few bricks more!
I realy hoped Lego would have done A new design on The Death star and put more efford in it.
My wish for Lego is stop remaking sets like this and design new things.

Thank you for your honest review. We are always looking for way to improve sets, in this case it would be the famous Death Star. This would be our 3rd time making a Death Star. The first time we made and designed the Death Star, it was the Death Star II and it was released 2005. This version you aren’t able to open up and play inside. The second time we made and designed the Death Star was 2008, and as we all know that made the longest run of any LEGO Product, being on our shelves for over 8 years. Within that time there were many updates to not only characters, pieces and even the way we packaged the item. The most recent Death Star is fully updated with new versions of the characters, pieces and packaging.

We do apologize that the new Death Star doesn’t meet your expectations.
We will pass along your comments to our Star Wars design team. Hearing what our fans have to say only makes us a better company.

Another LEGO Star Wars price gouge; future Omen?
on October 11, 2016

Like many, my gripe here is not the product itself but the unjustified price point. I don't know whether Disney is now demanding a higher % of profit on their branded items (particularly star wars?) or whether LEGO has made a conscious decision to target Star Wars fan wallets, but a curiously similar absurd price tag was attached to the recent Hoth set. Both, while great agnostic of price, are clear money grabs for whatever reason. The only choice one has in these circumstances is to boycott the ridiculous priced items in favor of those with more value per buck (i.e. smaller sets)
