One of the Best LEGO Sets of All Time
on March 31, 2018

His set is the best of all time. It shows many different scenes from the Death Stars in episodes 4 through 6. I had to get a shelf that was 16" wide just because of the size and it is a great part of my room. It works as a great conversation starter too.

very little improvement over retired 10188 set
on October 4, 2016

this set has barely any improvement over the retired set. it appears LEGO just redesigned a box and slapped a $100 premium on an old set. i am very disappointed at the lack of creativity here. i hope this is not a new face of lego/disney coop. as a collector i will not be keeping this one, its an abomination. had different scenes been incorporated in the similar doll house design it would have been a must have. as it currently stands this set is a waste of money for those that already have 10188.

I am sorry that you purchased a set that did not appeal to you. We tried really hard to make it clear that this set was a redesign and re-release of the original Death Star set 10188 and I am sorry that you were not aware of this.
Just as you and other builders were excited with the release of set 10188 in 2008 we are excited to be able to re-release this set to the next wave of young builders.
You are correct in noticing that there are subtle changes and a price increase. This has nothing to do with "a new face of LEGO/Disney coop" but many other factors including the rising cost of materials and cost of doing business.
I think we can all agree that every LEGO set has a purpose in the LEGO portfolio and we look forward to helping kids fulfill their dreams by offering this epic set once more.

Disappointing rehash
on October 23, 2016

This is a rehash of the previous Death Star. Lego tweaked a few details, added 2 minifigs and issued this as a "new" model. Very disappointing, especially considering a $100 (20%) increase in price.

He’s headed for that small moon!
on January 5, 2018

It does at times feel like a small moon! You really don’t get the scale of how big this one is until you’re about half way through, it widens and widens as you go. Such a lovely build, instructions are like you’re building a car, perfectly broken down and illustrated with some nice touches in there. Although doesn’t mean it’s an easy one, I’ve made a few mistakes along the way, and it takes a fair bit to resolve, trust me! But, to Lego’s credit, all the bits are there, well organised and numbered, it was a genuine pleasure and delight to build. Spent 2 days with nothing but music and this for company...flew by! Price wise, yes, it’s expensive...but then again, it’s a frigging Death Star! The gold standard of Star Wars Lego! And when you consider all the bits and all the time and effort that went into designing it...totally worth it. If you’re going to get hung up on the price, I would say get something a little cheaper, but if you can look past it and enjoy it for what it is, you won’t be disappointed. One slight thing I’m not a fan of, however, is it being one of the Ulimate Collector pieces...it’s not, I wouldn’t display it. It’s got plenty of play value if you like to play with your sets...but I think I’ll deconstruct in the next few days. Spend the time boxing it up nicely for a bank holiday weekend to enjoy again! Go on...treat yourself!

Over priced for what it is

To me, any Star wars UCS set is for display and collecting, not playability. This set is my sixth UCS set and is a good display piece but it out of proportion. I would much rather see the death star II set #10143 have the design flaws fixed and rereleased as it is a much better looking set

One of the Best Legos of All Time

This lego is really cool, and comes with a lot of minifigs, but it's 500 bucks for a little over 4000 pieces, so the value is really bad. I think there weren't enough Stormtroopers and Imperial Officers.

Nothing new for old fans

Disappointed in this set as there is not much design difference to its predecessor. Great for the extra pieces but not at this price...
To be honest Lego probably have better response if they re-lease the SW UCS Millennium Falcon 10179.

So much to love!

I am so confused by the negative reviews! Lego is in a tough position because people who did not purchase the previous set probably want a lot of the figures and features of the set that they missed out on. Had Lego designed a drastically different Death Star, those of us who do not have the original set would truly be missing out on incomparable play value! I for one cannot stand it when I have to navigate the secondary market to get figures and sets that my kids really want but that are no longer available. I appreciate this is set for everything that it offers, and I would advise anyone who is interested in a Death Star to go for it!
If I had to come up with one criticism, it is that the set is only available at Lego.com. Maybe this will change once it has been around longer.
