My dad's 1st lego set ever, and he loved it!

Ok, yeah I know, I kinda threw him in the deep end of the lego build pool, but I figured, why not, thanks to this pandemic, you have lots of spare time. Enter the locomotive. 15 (or so) build days, and now it proudly sits on a shelf, and he's already looking for the next one! He's hooked...even messing with my mom's build when she's not looking! (My dad is mid 60s and not detail oriented, so I'm sooo proud of him!)
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love train! I build them for lego ideas and was sad when one of these trains was not going to make it even close to 10K. Now I have this! I love it!

This is a great set. Really glad to see Lego bringing back creator expert trains. I hope this trend will continue and more will follow. Or possibly even expand on this and make some creator expert train cars or possibly train station, how cook would that be. I just wish this would work with older version of power functions, but I can live with that.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this as a gift last year, the price is actually great for the quality of the set! I didn't have as much of a problem reading the instructions like most people, but I did have to look closer.
I would love it if passenger car sets where available to go with this, there's not really anything available for this engine to pull unless you design it yourself, or get a lot of rare discontinued emerald night sets...
I have mine on display for the last year, because I'm on the fence about the new motorizing system used for this set after reading the reviews. A quick FYI for those complaining about "fake wheels" between the real wheels, these are not wheels, they are another fine detail that you find in this amazing set! If you look at the real locomotive, these are crank shafts that connect to the connecting rods, these are what drive this locomotive, and are not meant to contact the rails. I will be trying some of the simple mods I seen while reading the reviews, other then this, its my favorite piece in my LEGO collection as is.

Simply the best..... excellent design near to perfection. I extremely recommend to have this "beautiful lady" , Power Up and just let her to run , you will not regret . Please give us more trains and rolling stock with similar quality of construction and details.

Great set, especially for couples!

Bought this set because I am a trains and lego (and lego trains!) fan after a long time of not buying any lego. Design of the locomotive is great, and makes it an excellent display piece. Box fits assembled model perfectly in case it needs to be transported!
I built it together with my girlfriend (was her first lego!) and I found that the many symmetries parts made it great for couples, since we could build the same parts in coordination.
Areas of improvement:
- I would have liked to see more technical explanations about the actual locomotive in the instructions
- would be nice to have more technical realism in the set, e.g. engineer should be standing like in the real train, and the shaft that should connect the electric motor to the wheels is not present in this model.
- as other reviews have mentioned, gaps between the main body and front/rear part are unrealistically large- maybe next time Lego could include some extra pieces for "display only" which increase realism and that can be removed for functionality.
