A Quality Build
on July 11, 2020

I was excited when I first read about this set before release, and it hasn’t disappointed! It was fun to build and looks fantastic! I’m on the fence whether to install a motor because it looks great as-is. For its cost, I feel you get a lot as far as build satisfaction and curb appeal. Great job LEGO!

Excellent locomotive --- first in a series I hope!

What a wonderful surprise the Crocidile Locomotive was. Lego nailed the design, color palette, brick selection and overall design. Congrats to the designer for a job well-done.
The build was challenging for certain, however, most will find that the most challenging aspect is to achieve the perfection as shown with the imagery on the package, in the instructions or the picture found on lego.com. The positioning of the wheels prior to adding the cross bars, for example, differs from side-to-side to achieve a realistic effect. The brown brick selection used as the main color is simply perfect, and changes in appearance depending on the light in the space.
I especially appreciate the display track included with this set. I will not operate this locomotive with the optional power functions, I have the set on display on my desk where it will remain. The display track is substantial, detailed and elevates the overall quality of the locomotive itself.
Great job, Lego team, on this set. I hope you consider future locomotives and create a bit of a series. I will purchase all of them if you do. With so many locomotives to select from, from around the globe, I'm certain you'll have no trouble growing the series and interest from your global consumer base.

Fun to build and motorize
on July 16, 2021

I built this with the recommended LEGO hub and motor, and operate it with the Powered Up app on my phone. When making the initial pairing with the app, I found I had to have the motor disconnected from the hub. After pairing, I connected the motor, and it works fine, and is fun to operate.

so good I can't think of a title

I really liked being able to build a cheaper 18+ set. I am a kid so it is really hard to earn money so I saved up for this for like 9 months. I really liked it. It was really fun.

Awesome!(& some small changes make it even better)

I'd say this is the most realistic and detailed locomotive LEGO has ever made. It makes a wonderful display piece and is fun to play around with. It has some minor issues, the biggest one being the gaps between the noses and the cab, which are an eyesore and not realistic. I fixed this with a simple modification which uses some common pieces to fill in the gap without impacting the Crocodile's ability to go around curves (credit for the mod goes to Phil B on Eurobricks). It makes a huge difference! I'd also recommend removing the rubber bands around the wheels if you don't plan on motorizing the train. I hope that more amazing sets like this will follow.

Great for a challenge (keep reading though)

Looking to further quell boredom during this pandemic, I decided to try this for the first time without instructions. I had done this before, but only with sets that I had already assembled in the past - never with something new. The pictures on the box were sparse, but with a bit of logic (and LOTS of trial-and-error), it was possible to do this! I suspect this is about as complicated of a model as I can do this for - there's some SNOT techniques involved, but nothing too serious.
Instructions are adequate (I looked through them after I finished). The model looks great though! It'll have a place of honor on my shelf, and will be great fun to play with in the future!
