I bought this so that I didn’t need to carry extra water weight in my bag. I went out on a 3 day hike from where I parked my vechicle. It worked fine the first day and a half and then stopped working. Luckily I had the backup small bladder water or I would have been screwed. How can you advertise something that is supposed to work for 5 years and it only lasts a day and a half. It could have been a life or death situation.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Because I do a lot of hiking and backpacking I received two Lifestraws as gifts a couple of years ago. Never used either of them. I decided because of the weight factor not to carry my normal two liters of water and my Katadyn Water Filter on a 3 day backpacking trip in a primitive area of the Grand Canyon.....I would use a Lifestraw.....after about 1.5 liters of water it quit working.......suck or blow I could not get anything to flow through the filter...air or water......NEVER AGAIN!!

Can you please email us immediately at info@lifestraw.com?
As a single mother of an autistic child, it was long overdue that I put together items for emergencies. A Lifestraw is priority number one when gathering items for an emergency preparedness kit. Lifestraw was the first of it's kind in convenience for filtering water sources and guaranteeing clean water filtration. I am so thankful for genius inventors who see imperative product ideas and make them affordable for everyone!

I bought this product about a month ago. Went on a 6 mile hike up Elk Creek in Colorado it was 80 degree weather. I didn't pack a water bottle because the creek flowed along the trail. I went to use the Lifestraw and it didn't work. Couldn't get the water to flow through the straw. Almost died of dehydration and heat exhaustion because I put my faith in this product.

Totally failed me

I owned the LifeStraw for 2 years now. I've been keeping it as a backup, and I've tested it multiple times. Yesterday I started a 120km trail and the trail was very dry, which I didn't anticipated. I quickly went out of water at km 10. Since my water tabs didn't fit the bill for muddy water, I quickly turned to the LifeStraw (there was only boggy leftovers from crossings). To my surprise, it wouldn't work. No matter the amount of suction I made, the water wouldn't go through. I tried to blow the other way, since that's in the instruction, that didn't work neither. I had to walk 5 km to the next road in the heat (with my huge hiking pack) and I dehydrated. I'm lucky the next road was this close. The LifeStraw is going straight to the garbage bin for me. End of rant.

Me and a friend went on a hiking trip. He brought along his life straw. Few hours into the adventure we became thirsty and decided to use the straw. I rinsed my mouth with it and took one small sip from a fast flowing creek. Been on the toilet last two days. Thanks life straw

I recently went on a backpacking trip and decided to bring my Lifestraw that I recently purchased. I filled up my canteen with stream water and would use the straw periodically to drink from it while hiking up the trail. The next morning I went to a spring and filled up my canteen but no matter how hard I tried I could not get any water from the straw. This left me 14 miles in the back country without any safe drinking water. I followed all instructions for use and cleaning of the straw and it failed on the first gallon of water.

I have never used it, always took as an emergency, and a year later, even though it had never been used, it doesn't work, and one of the hiker on the TMB had the same experience than I.
