A solid foundation

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Living in the Pacific Northwest can bring unique challenges. Whether it be inclement weather or civil unrest, having a get home bag is a must. THE SEVENTY2 Pro Survival System provides a solid foundation to build upon. On it's own, it does the job, but by adding a few additional items (signal mirror, lighters, maps, compass, etc.) it's exactly what you need when the time comes. I highly recommend this product.

Luckily, I have not had to use this item yet! I like that the inventory of items is printed on the backpack so it’s easy to re-supply as items expire (or are used). I also like the dry-bag design and the fold-over, clip-up design where everything is organized in discrete sections and is visible all at once. The only thing which could be improved is that the kit doesn’t leave room for iodine tablets, an extra set of clothes prescription medications and extra eye glasses, all of which are recommended to pack in a ‘Go Bag’. I’d like this backpack to serve as my emergency ‘Go-Bag’ and not need to have an additional bag to carry. If room could be made for those extra recommended items, it would be perfect. It would also be nice if this kit did NOT include cheap, synthetic gloves and beanie caps. If I had known that these were part of the kit, I would prefer to have 100% wool items and supply them myself. It would be helpful if those items were sold separately so that folks have the choice NOT to elect fossil-based clothing items. Thanks for considering these suggestions.

I do wish it came with a little more emergency food/water but for a quick grab and go, it definitely covers the essentials! The insert with labels and instructions is also a nice bonus!

These guys put a LOT of thought into these kits. Not saying I wouldnt (or didnt) do it differently, but they independently came to a lot of gear choices I made. Ever try to crib a heavy object off a broken leg, then treat the patient? I have. Comfortable, lightly insulated, waterproof gloves are the answer. (Even HD nitrile gloves break if you wear them inside work gloves, and they SWEAT.) Cushioned, ventillated, antifog eyewear you can compress in a pack, that wont break? Yep. Quality multitool (*wonder if theirs has a lifetime replacement part warranty?). Butane fails in cold and at altitude, so matches are nice. Add some petroleum jelly to that cotton and put it in a tiny ziploc bag so the matches dont get slippery. The waterproof bag is very well done, but the pack straps need work. AFTER ALL THAT, WHY DO I WANT YOU TO GET THIS KIT? Two reasons: 1) its the best I have ever seen, & 2) Just once I'd like to save someone's butt using their own supplies!
