The Inspiron 15 5000 is great and has met all my expectation. The only disappointment is the key board fads out [becomes unreadable] in any type of strong light such as my desk lamp or light from my window. I have to consistently change angles of sight for any touch [except for typing which I do by touch] action required. The finger print reader is not sufficiently reliable as I have to add my PIN way too often.
Overall this laptop is great but I've noticed the touchpad seems to get stuck and wont allow you to click on anything. Easy fix by using a mouse but a little annoying when thinking of using the laptop on the go
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hello t,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and provide feedback on your product. We are sorry you are experiencing issues with your touchpad. Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three-finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate, and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:
1. In the Search box, type main.CPL. 2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs. 3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab. 4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad. 5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option). 6. Change the options as preferred. 7. Touch or click Save. 8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility. 9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window. 10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

This laptop has good specs, it's fast enough, has the minimum amount of ram and the screen is bright enough. However from a usability standpoint they dropped the ball. The silver keyboard looks fancy but is difficult to see in all conditions. Ironically, unless it's very dark the backlighting makes it worse, it's actually unusable. No one should ever make laptops with silver keys, it's a terrible thing, why do they still do this? Also, the cursor keys are not full size and are hard to use without having to look at them. The keys themselves have a very small range of motion, takes getting used to from other laptops or a desktop keyboard.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the keyboard lighting. To help with the keyboard lighting issue we suggest disabling the backlit keyboard when you are in lit areas. Below I have provided the steps to disable the backlighting and the full article link.
Backlit keyboard options in BIOS 1. Click the + sign next to System Configuration. 2. Click Keyboard Illumination. 3.* Disabled or Off - The keyboard illumination is off. *Dim - The keyboard illumination is at half brightness. *Bright - The keyboard illumination is at full brightness. 4. My problem was the keyboard. My old keyboard is black with big white letters. The Inspiron 's keyboard was hard for me to see with ot without the lighting. I sold it and will soon order another - but with a easier to read keyboard. Otherwise, I loved the computer!
My only concern is I can no longer record from my drumbox onto my 3rd party program (Movavi) from my new PC. My old laptop still works and can still record from the drumbox but this new one does not. EQ shows sound coming through, but the speakers won't play the sound and my 3rd party software records air. I've checked settings, updated the software, drivers, etc. Spent 3 hours working on the issue but couldn't resolve it and needed to move on with my workday.
