I'm not sure why there are water filters in this unit This adds to the maintenance costs, if I choose to replace them. Are they really necessary for the unit to function properly? Or just for "better tasting coffee" supposedly.

The 12-cup coffee maker is a standard Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker. + Pros: reliable, makes good coffee, looks OK. + Cons: like all Cuisinarts, if the coffee maker sits on the back of your counter (where it belongs) it's cumbersome to get water into the reservoir, and hard to see the fill lines on the side.
The single-serve brewer is a great built-alongside asset, preserving counter space compared to a stand-alone 'pod' single-serve brewer. I've been brewing using the Home Barista adaptor (with a little single-serve gold filter) instead of throw-away pods, and am very happy with it (like all gold filters instead of paper filters, there will be a little bit of coffee grounds residue in your cup). + Pros: Good coffee, space saving, tall enough to accommodate a travel mug. + Cons: The height isn't adjustable, so low cups might take a little splatter; the Home Barista adaptor is proprietary designed, so adaptors but for a Keurig won't fit the Cuisinart; the lid hinge on the Home Barista adaptor is just waiting to break; the release mechanism to open the pod assembly requires pulling up on a plastic lip, which torques a bit each time -- I hope I hope that this is durable, and doesn't snap in two.

Like that I can make a pot or just a cup. Can use my own coffee for both. Pot keeps coffee nice and hot for up to two hours. Have been looking at this pot for a long time. Glad I finally brought it.

I have had 3 of them and all 3 have had issues. The clock has run fast on all 3 of them. The first 2 both had issues with leaking from the single serve side. After several months, when I would remove the reservoir to refill it the stopper would not completely plug the hole and water would leak out. So far the 3rd one hasn’t done it but I expect it will eventually.
