Best battery ever

Last year I chose to change my life by doing what they call “vanlife” I did research on many things and the hardest part was how to supply my entire van with power without running the engine. Many people told me I would need multiple batteries, inverters and all kinds of stuff. But then I found the goal zero. It made life so easy with easy connecting and small enough to store under bed. It powers my roof fan. Fridge, coffee maker, grittle, toaster oven, wifi router as well as charges all my devices. I did this by connecting solar panels to it.

So Many Uses

Great as emergency power for outages. The 2000 Watt inverter let’s you do so much more than other battery systems. We ran furnace and two freezers and internet router for 3 hours in an outage and only used about 15% of its capacity. Have put it in the back of the car with a small microwave for heating soup for winter bird watching trips. Have used it for a half hour of work with an electric chain saw. If this had been available before I did a camper van conversion, I would have skipped the whole battery system and just included one of these. Completely reliable. Not the cheapest, just the best.

yeti 1500x multiple failures
on November 21, 2022

bought in sept/22 to run our tv/sat setup which draws 150watts. added the extra battery which was charged by the mppt solar charger from solar panels.
1st failure was the plug from the battery to the module which melted, this was v2. this was a known problem with their v1. the module was supposed to draw 750 watts from the battery but it was drawing 823 watts, see photo. they quickly replaced the module and plug.
2nd failure was it got stuck in the update loop which none of the normal rebooting would fix. finally found the fix which required opening the case and unplugging the screen first and then the battery ec8 plugs. it fixed the problem but is very daunting with all the wires in there.
3rd failure was the usb out, it stopped working
4th failure is the 120v out. It is now giving the “overload” error even with nothing plugged in. battery profile is balanced. Battery is charged. None of the rebooting techniques can fix this so its going back to factory.

Powered up 4 Ham Radios for a day!

I am the Field Day coordinator for my Ham radio club. Field Day is an annual event to test the ability to set up emergency communications in North America. I volunteered to use my Yeti 1500X to power our 4 radio transmitters the day of the event. We powered the operations for almost 6 hours with the Yeti and a solar panel. At the end of the day, the Yeti still had about 30% capacity remaining, It was a great test of the Yeti!

fairly decent axolotl life support system

I’ve been thinking about this for extended camping trips for years but finally necessity made it happen. We were moving from Philly to Denver and decided to camp our way across i90. The problem was that we had to transport out axolotl. Maintaining 65F in a 30 gallon tank on a 95 degree day is tough. We had the tank pump, a chiller and a dometic refrigerator/freezer attached, as well as the occasional cell phone. A full charge got about 5-6 hours with all this attached. You would obviously get much more life out of a full charge if not running 3 pumps. We had to get creative with finding power sources mid-day. Fun fact, most restaurants with A/C have a service receptacle installed nearby. I purchased three accessories. The rapid charger: absolutely necessary for doing something like this. Will allow you to get half a charge while eating lunch. The car charger: we used this while driving and couldn’t tell the difference. Maybe with a smaller load it would be more useful. The protective container: Garbage. The battery overheats too fast when using it. If you do buy it do not fast charge with it. Overall great product. 4stars because of the case and the obnoxious flashing charging light which I had to watch for 31 hours.

When I’m working on set this battery pack powers my computer, monitor - charges camera batteries etc for a full 12 hours - It’ll last a lot longer but being able to trust something has enough power to get you through all that is amazing. Sometimes I’m running an external graphics card & the Yeti 1500x makes it all possible. No more do I need a building with power to do my job this opened up so many doors for new business and possibilities. When I’m not working, the the Yeti 1500x will power my entire telescope, laptop & mobile hotspot easily all night. Tracking stars, capturing images, keeping the Astro camera sensor chilled to -20c, relaying the images back to base camp so I don’t have to stay up all night getting devoured by mosquitoes. I even used it earlier today to power a saw while building a skateboard ramp haha this is the perfect size to get everything I need done. Paired with the super charger they make, it’s a no brainer.

LOVE IT! Just home from 3 weeks in the van - plenty of power to run the fan, reading lights, charge phones and computers - whatever. Charged off the van during long drive days. Only needed to bust out the solar once.

Failed when we needed it most

Bought this as a backup for the freezer we store my wife's extra breast milk in. She is on medication that she shouldn't breastfeed on and so she pumped an extra 3000 oz of breast milk while on maternity leave while she didn't need to take her medication. We were going to be away for a month to visit family and let them get to spend time with our newborn son. We just got back and everything in the freezer has to be thrown away. The unit was on 91% but for some reason the output outlet turned itself off. There is no notification when this happens. I have the app and could have turned it on if I was notified. This is especially disappointing because this happened at the same time as the formula shortage. Seems like a good unit for camping or when you are able to monitor it but there is no way I will be able to trust this product to perform for critical times.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
