Tank of a Power Bank

Coming back to review this after 5 years. This thing is still awesome. I've used it at least a dozen times during power outages to power two refrigerators and a tankless (gas) water heater. I also bought Goal Zero's 12-volt car adapter to recharge it from one of my EVs. Just powering those appliances, I could probably handle a power outage for a week; provided my EV was fully charged and the 12-volt adapter was reliable enough (which I don't think it is; it has some issues...). Overall, I'm really happy with the Goal Zero and the Yeti 1500 five years on. The UPS I use in my home office just died, and I am strongly considering replacing it with a Yeti 500 since it has an AC pass-through circuit with failover.

I have 4 - 1500X power stations. Use them as emergency power back up for my amateur radio station, as well as back up for our home power.

Yeti-1500 X -- Showing its Age

I believe Goal Zero (GZ) first offered this product for sale in summer 2020. While the Yeti 1500X is capable and popular Goal Zero product, it is now showing its age.
I own a lot of GZ products. I bought this Yeti-1500X, on sale, because I needed a medium size power station having a regulated 30-Amp PowerPole output port. GZ is the only company, to my knowledge, that offers this port. This port important for ham radio, and other uses. That said, I’m not sure I can recommend the Yeti 1500X. This is why.
The Yeti 1500 X is overdue for an upgrade that should include but not be limited to these items: 1. Upgrade the 60W PD USB-C outlet to 100W PD. Everyone has moved to the 100 W PD USB-C port. 2. Either increase the storage capacity or decrease the weight. For about the same weight there are numerous competitor products that will give you 2000 Wh output, with the modern PD ports. 3. The user interface should be upgraded to show power in and out at the same time. 4. Build in the AC fast charging capability like the Yeti 700 series and the Pro-4000.
I do like the battery discharge pattern on the Yeti-1500X. The discharge is steady and predictable. I ran a full-sized refrigerator for 20 hours and could have gotten 3 more hours out if the Yeti.
I was very disappointed the 60W PD port would not boot my Starlink Mini. Some sources said 60W PD would work and 60 Watts is certainly enough power to run Starlink – but apparently Starlink requires that initial 100W PD handshake to start up. There are work arounds, but they take capability from other functions.
For a time, was certain GZ was going upgrade the Yeti 1500 X since they delivered great new small and large capacity power stations. To remain relevant in the mid-range power station market, GZ (BioLite) really must get to it. Let’s hope they keep the 30 Amp Anderson PowerPole output port to differentiate them from all their competition and serve an important customer base.
Do I recommend this unit? If you are not deep into GZ ecosystem, and don’t need the special PowerPole output, you’ll probably get more value from another manufacturer’s product. I'm sorry, but that's the way I see it. Let’s hope BioLite plans to build on their investment in Goal Zero and restore them to an industry leading position for the mid-sized power unit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
