So many dutch ovens are round. I really like the oval design on this one. The black matte interior gives great browning and the braising spikes on the lid keep my food moist. I like doing a whole chicken in here but even more i like to do a nice long braise in pieces. The rooster knob is available seperatly but comes with this model......bonus. The enamel coating is super attractive and is so much easier to clean than regular cast iron.
This arrived to me with pitted areas all over on the top. I love the Staub brand and was very surprised this was sent to a customer in the condition I received it in.

Staub cast iron is by far superior to all other cast iron cookware. The dark interior browns and sears nicely any meats you cook. The self basting feature on the lid helps keep meats, poultry moist and flavorful while cooking quicker than cooking in a roasting pan or other dish. I like that my dinner can be served right from the piece it is cooked in; this Coq au Vin makes a beautiful serving piece as it goes directly from the oven to the table.
I love my new Dutch Oven! It is the perfect size for making soups, stews, roasts and whole chickens. And it cleans up like a dream! I had a difficult time deciding on a color, but I am very happy I chose Genedine; it’s a deep, rich burgundy looks beautiful.
My entire family uses this coq au vin. It makes soup, it steams, deep fries braises, sautes and we even cook burgers and steaks in it. The heat capability of the pan is exceptional - heats up quickly and evenly, also stays hot for hours. It has self-basting spikes on the interior of the lid which collect and return all moisture back into dish keeping your flavor base intact. The pan can be used on any cooking surface, up to 572F.
This coq au vin make the best roast chicken you have ever had. It has self-basting spikes on the interior of the lid which collect and return all moisture back into dish so the end result is a moist, succulent chicken. Its matte-black textured enamel interior promotes perfect browning and searing. The pan is scratch resistant and you can use metal utensils on it.
This oval design allows you to fit longer items in the pot. It’s good for fitting long roasts or whole chickens as well as any other items you would cook in a traditional cocotte. The rooster knob is a fun addition that really makes this pot stand out from others. The lid design really helps in maintaining the moistness of your food without having to lift up the lid and baste continuously.
