So many dutch ovens are round. I really like the oval design on this one. The natural properties of cast iron make it heat very evenly and hold temperature for a long time. The enamel coating means no seasoning and easy cleanup. The black matte interior gives great browning and the braising spikes on the lid keep my food moist. I like doing a whole chicken in here but even more i like to do a nice long braise in pieces. The rooster knob is available separately but comes with this model......bonus. The exterior enamel color is super attractive and is so much easier to clean than regular cast iron.
This cocotte is a classic and should be a staple in all kitchens. The dark matte interior heats evenly, and holds on to the heat, so no hot spots. Great for stew, chili, soups, sauces, braises, and of course Coq au Vin. Looks great on the table as well as keeps the food nice and hot. Staub is made in France and is resistant to chipping which is why I have also seen it being used in some of the restaurants my husband and I frequent. The beautiful enamel is three dimensional, and the piece is truly a visual work of art. But don't let that fool you, the cocotte is constructed in such a way that it really helps add flavor, color and professional results to your cooking. This pan has truly elevated my cooking.
This pan is very well constructed. It has a dark interior which helps brown foods, and prevents staining. The lids are flat and heavy which helps keep the liquids in the pan when roasting or braising. Very versatile, can even be used to make delicious homemade bread. Worth it's weight in gold.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this as a bridal shower gift and I love it so much! Not only is it beautiful but it cooks my dishes perfectly. Can’t wait to keep using this for years to come
This cocotte works just like a slow cooker....brown and sears and sautes in same pot. Self basting lid gives a juicy and flavorful finished meal; cooks faster than just using a traditional dutch oven. Meal is served in the cocotte, making for a quick clean up after dinner. Each color is beautiful, and the rooster finial adds the finishing touch to a great product.
Coq au Vin is essential for cooking larger poultry and roasts. Tight fitting lid with the dimples guarantees a juicy, tender and flavorful result..I find I use less liquid and my meal cooks quicker and it's due to this self-basting lid. Compared to my other cast iron pots, I find the dark interior does a better job browning and searing than my other cast iron. Beautiful piece and fantastic results. I like that I can serve straight from the Coq au Vin, which helps in keeping the dinner easy to serve straight from the oven to the tabletop.
