This was a really cool build but with the weight of this set with having the first of it's kind 3 speed transmission, its very underpowered. Honestly to power this model forward or in reverse, it needs 2 XL motors, not just one because in 3rd gear it badly loses torque and cannot go as well as it should if it had more power pushing it. With having 4 ports on the hub, it totally would of and should of been feasible to add a second XL motor to help power the 6 large wheels. So in all a great build, impressive look but vastly underpowered.

Gear Issues
on August 5, 2021

This is the worst set of instructions I have come across in all my years of Lego building. Many extremely difficult to decipher pictures that have you looking ahead or behind to try to find where a part goes. I took my time, no rushing, and was very sure there were no building mistakes on my part. When I started the application, I found that even though the shifters were working in automatic and manual mode, the truck refused to move. When I switched into third gear the dump mechanism became active. I am aware of other Lego builders that have across the same problems. Other than these issues, it looks like a really nice model.

Beautiful, Fun, Challenging, Punishing
on February 7, 2021

I love Lego’s attention to detail. This is a really beautiful set that will put the heart of a child back into any adult.
I like the direction lego is going with the app. Its very dynamic and it adds more of a sense of realism. However, the model itself is sometimes really slow even on top gear it lacks pulling power and speed. I think the app needs to have a recalibrate button, it may have one but i didnt see it and had to delete and re-download the app. I sometimes think that the firmware engineers and the software engineers are on 2 different planets and they need to be in one big studio together so everyone can see what the others are working on.
This model is a really challenging build, not for kids or people new to lego. It requires a strong level of focus and a keen eye for detail. If you mess up one little detail the whole kit will not work. For example i got to the calibration phase and the hydraulic lift for the bucket fell apart. Turns out i miss interpreted the assembly to the gear box. I needed needle nose pliers to get the pins out. Thankfully i was able to fix it and move on without completely disassembling. Given the complexity and fastening of each gear section to the total gear box it can be tricky to tell if everything snapped together. Multiple points snapping means multiple chances of messing something up. I dont think the images in the instructions are enough. I think there needs to be periodic points in the instructions that point to components and ask you to move them to make sure everything is in line and working. But even then a video showing the more tricky aspects of assembly would be very helpful.
Stickers are fun for small static models but this is something that people want to take outside and drive around. We all know that lego stickers over time pucker and peel away. I recommend just printing directly onto the pieces themselves.
The assembly of the engine block and the cab was hard because as you are connecting pieces you are popping pieces off so it becomes a delicate process of push and pull which can cause mis-alignment. I can easily see people either out of frustration or by accident possibly breaking pieces on this kit
Over all this is a really rigid build. Im not at all concerned about it falling apart. Even though I would recommend this kit there are strings attached to that recommendation. I definitely think the model could be designed to go faster. It looks great set up on a desk or a shelf, definitely a conversation piece. I need an rc loader to build now.

My dad bought and built he Volvo Hauler and was amazed at the detailed engineering in it. He downloader the land everything worked OK up to the point that it automatically started the tutorial or training video and could NOT get out of it. He tried everything he could think of and therefore can not run the Volvo Hauler. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Great set!!!!

I love everything about this truck. Yes its a bit pricey, but after you assemble it and see what the motors can do you realize its totally worth it. I assembled it but my 4 year old loves to play with it. He loves to fill the back with his duplo bricks and use the phone to dump the "load" around the house. I would deff. Recommend this truck to anyone with a child that loves construction trucks.

A truckload
on September 8, 2020

It may seem like a truck load of work (pun intended). The colors blend in really well and I strongly recommend this set if you have the Volvo Wheel Loader, Zeux and Excavator. They go great together and it just looks stunning and quite noticeable. It has a good size. It wasn't too much work, but I found out early I left out some red cogs by accident but noticed it soon and damage was minimal, just some rebuiding. Beware on step 320 for part 3 as when your putting it together, its really flimsy and will drop. At first I thought it was a design flaw and thought I would have to manually make something to hold it but I never got to that. I continued the build instead and I saw how it worked. It's a decent set and it was a nice design. Good job Lego!

Great Set For the Cost
on June 7, 2021

This is a fantastic set for the price because it includes the Bluetooth Smart hub controller along with 3 motors, 1 of which is an angular position motor. I bought this set for the parts because the cost of it is so incredible compared to buying them individually. I built the model, but I'm not a fan of how slow it goes or it's low turning radius. It also has a very low clearance on the ground making it difficult for to go over uneven bumpy terrain. The entire gear box is incredible amd the parts alone are worth it.
