Small and compact, and it works works. This is a wide slot not a long slot there is a difference. As a wide slot it holds bagels just fine. However if you want long artisan style bread get a different toaster. I ran it through 4 cycles at max heat empty to burn off anything left from production prior to using it. Had it over 2 months and we use it multiple times daily and no issues.

Very good toaster. The only reason I gave it a four star rating is that when toasting a single slice (in either slot) one side of the bread gets fully toasted but the other side not so much. No problem with two slices.

We owned an earlier version of this Cuisinart toaster. For many years it functioned just fine. Recently it started to put off some funny smells while operating. Cleaning the crumbs out did not really help so we decided to replace. Looking at all the options we chose Cuisinart again. This time I actually read the instructions and learned that if you select "bagel" setting it adds extra time to English muffins and wheat bread eliminating the need to toast for two cycles. It seems this new model does toast more evenly, too. If this lasts as long as our previous model Cuisinart toaster, it will be a bargain.
