This machine is approved by the Specialty Association of America. The default settings meet their criteria. It does have three brew settings and two heat settings. We prefer the high heat and bold settings. Our only complaint is the carafe. It doesn't keep the coffee hot more than one hour. After that, the taste just isn't as good. That's our only complaint. So enjoy a great cup of joe within the first hour.

Easy to use. Almost as good as a French press without any of the mess. The carafe keeps the coffee hot but does not pour very well. Lots of options so wiil handle different beans and strengths.

Love it. Easy to modify temp re: flavor, heat, etc. Trial error re: water:coffee ratio depending on the grind size, flavor, etc (like all machines). No regrets. I wish the auto off was > 1 hr BUT keeps it from burning/safety so no complaints (just make two 4 cup pots instead of a single 8 cup pot in the am).

Love the coffee maker but had an issue witht he thermal carafe. The joint between the upper cap and outer wall let go but Cuisinart immediately sent a replacement. Great customer service and a really good coffee maker.
