New Favorite

$1000s in LEGO sets over the years and this has dethroned my long time favorite (Ewok Village) as what I consider the best set in my collection. This set feels like an amazing value with a footprint nearly the size of Apocalypseburg at $100 cheaper and it doesn’t feel any less, in fact I consider it significantly superior.
Like Ewok Village, this set makes for both incredible play and display which you can find (to an extent) in many sets but this set has done exceptionally well.
On YouTube, some reviewers complained about the transition from island to ship. The transition is incredibly easy and I had no trouble at all reassembling the boat back into the island from memory. For a child, I think it might be challenging but someone older ought to be able to assemble the basic ship in 5 min or less (without sails) once the island is finished, it’s very intuitive. The sails can be finicky because you will not want to crease them and some of the rigging takes some time.
I love my modulars, I love my UCS sets, but this one beats them all.

Amazing build!!

This build is worth everything. It brings me back to my childhood playing pirates with my twin brother. The details are intricate and no room is left untouched. The complete build fits together in a set that is either for display or play- even though I’m 25 you best bet I’ll be playing with this one! It’s an amazing deal for the price, wonderful colors, tons of bricks, and a great building experience. I am super happy with this set, and you will be too.

Ooooh East? I thought you said Weast!

Weast? What kind of compass are you reading lad? The yellow minifigure on the front of the ship reminds me of similarity of Charlotte from National Treasure. First of all, let me say that this set doesn't disappoint. It's very unique and cool. It's a must buy for sure! I knew it wouldn't last long online, so I didn't miss my chances. It just took two weeks to get here. There is almost no repetition, if any at all. There is a small error on step 308/309. The small claw listed as a piece in 309, is actually in 308. It threw me off a little. The cannon works good and cool, the decorations are well done, with the pig and shark being added. It's nicely detailed. The 3 in 1 is a plus and its in a tropical atmosphere. Please consider this set, its very worth the money. Did I mention? It's bigger than you think.

A wonderful set with a great nostalgia factor

My first LEGO set was the 1989 Black Seas Barracuda, which was given to me as a used set on my 6th birthday in 1995. I became a LEGO fan from that moment onward. While I never really became a major LEGO pirates theme fan, as my interests in different LEGO themes grew, that set always remained my most treasured, used, well-played and worn LEGO set until it was lost in house moving.
When I found out that LEGO is putting out this set, I could not contain my excitement to buy it and put it together. I used to pretend my 1989 Barracuda was shipwrecked and this set just hits me with all those memories and moments.
This set is fantastically designed with so much care put to how it would look once it is made into its shipwrecked format or its fully assembled ship format. The quality of the pieces are as always 100% LEGO quality. The high cost is understandable considering the piece count, mini figure count, and cloth sails. Its a enjoyable build, with great potential for display as an assembled ship, or just for playing.
BUY and ENJOY IT IF YOU CAN.

Best Lego set ever...

Best Lego set ever, and I don’t use the phrase loosely. I have logged 177 sets over the years since 1989. My first set being the Eldorado Fortress (which is mentioned in the instruction book bio). I also had the inspiration for this set, Black Seas Barracuda. So purchasing this set was a must! Every component of this set is detailed, thought out, creative, interesting and well designed. The idea of a shipwreck island that also assembled as the ship itself is genius. Lego out done themselves with this design. The interior is detailed and fun. There are lots of “hiding” spots, unique designs that made building challenging and creative. By far the best set Lego has ever made. Easily 10/10.

The great you've already heard is all true

You've probably read through reviews already that highlight just how great Pirates of Barracuda Bay is, so I'll make mine short and try to highlight some other aspects as well. What you've heard is true, all the way; the set is detailed and intricate, the island doesn't become an afterthought once the ship has been converted, but rather an amazing build on its own, with the ship being a beautiful build as well, the amount of things you can change and play with is simply exceptional with the various figures and the cargo crates, bottles, and so many more accessories. The bottom line for me? The set is fun and incredibly interesting, as it can be a play set or a display set, allowing you to modify all that you have. It's not a static set by any means. The final little bit that I like? The spare pieces themselves are a treasure unto themselves. Truly an exceptional creation by the Lego Ideas theme, once that the fan designer and Lego designers made into something great.

Finally!

I begged my parents for the Black Seas Barracuda back when I was a kid! I haven't done a build in years. I happened, by chance, to see a blog post about this release and purchased it the day it came out. Totally worth waiting 30 years!

The New Standard

I've built a ton of Lego sets. All the way up to the massive Millennium Falcon. The Pirates of Barracuda Bay is probably my favorite so far. It has so many great little details and looks amazing. The kids love it too.
