for traveling I use the head that comes with the tripod, but for work at home and that does not matter the weight or volume I use the adapter with a fluid head from Manfrotto

Works Great with Manfrotto MVH500AH Fluid Head

I've been using this with the Manfrotto MVH500AH fluid head and a mirrorless camera. Even when fully extended, the tripod remains stable with the heavier head. Really nice having a compact and light tripod for film production, thanks to this adapter.

I use this on my travel tripod to add my preferred ballhead. It comes with a short post, but you can add the longer post that comes with the tripod.

Astro-photography focused use case

I purchased this tripod along with a star tracker to capture some night shots of Arizona. I found this Head Adapter easy to install and of a high quality. I've been able to get pin point star / Milky Way + Landscape shots. It's still lightweight and easy to swap out. V-Happy with my purchase.

Universal Head Adaptor

I use my Peak Design Tripod in two ways. First, I use it just as it it was created with nothing changed. It's very lightweight and works seamlessly with my photo system. Great for hiking and climbing.
But I have another need. I use a Gimbal style head four some things but I wanted to be able to swap back and forth very quickly. So I purchased the Universal Head adaptor and minted the other head on that. I also purchased an addition center column so to switch between uses I can loosen one nut, slip it off and put the other one in place. All that in about 10 seconds!
Now it's value to me has increased even more! Thank you PD for an exceptionally well designed product, and equally helpful support!
