No parental controls

I had the RBR50 and thought this would be a nice upgrade. I have had lots of compatibility issues: the system keeps falling off of my modem, then I cannot connect my Orbi voice without losing the connection to the new system. Finally, a major disadvantage: NO CIRLCE app! I just assumed it was included.

Hello.

Parental controls will be released in an upcoming firmware version. The Orbi voice will not be able to connect as part of the Orbi mesh network as there are different types of technology. The Orbi voice RBS40V-200 is able to be setup as an extender.

Thank you.

Widely Reported Ongoing Problems
on March 14, 2021

Unfortunately my Netgear mesh system started having problems shortly after purchase. These issues have been widely reported by hundreds of other users. Just do a search for "Orbi Intermittent DNS Errors and WiFi Issues" and you will see all the problems.
Netgear support has been abysmal in their lack of response and support for a defective product. There is still no fix, even though this issue has been reported over 6 months ago.

Set up issues
on March 18, 2021

We tried to set up the NetGear product using the app and ran into issues. We followed directions and now have to pay a consultant to reinstall. There are no telephone numbers to speak with Netgear professionals. It is not as easy as advertised.

Recently upgraded from the RBR50 set up to this WiFi 6 model. It works very well but very disappointed that circle is not built in. I assumed it would be since the older version had it but it’s not! Please Netgear.....parents need this and would appreciate this addition. I’m considering taking this back for this very reason!!

I had to upgrade to a new obri after I discovered my original orbi was being overworked because of the 48 connected internet devices connect. Once I fired up that baby I was in business.

Unstable - don't buy
on May 20, 2021

I bought this rather expensive product a couple of months ago and it is the most unstable wifi, I have ever tried. Keeps throwing users off, reinstalled sonos every week and so on. Tech support asks to change a ton of settings in different combinations and wire (!!!) the backhaul, which just tells me the product itself is faulty as none of this works. I kind of compare it to taking your brand new expensive Audi to the dealer becuase it won't start half of the time and they ask me to change ride height, ac temperature, tire pressure etc. Please read all the real life reviews before making same mistake as me.

Save your money

I’ve had this for less than a week and my WiFi speeds are no better than the Linksys EA9200 it replaced. To start, the free 2 day shipping took over a week to arrive. I ordered on a Saturday and did not receive a “shipped” email until Wednesday and it arrived the following Tuesday. I get that with the pandemic things might slow up but do not offer what you cannot guarantee, the 2 day shipping was one of the main reasons I bought it from the web store. I have 300 Mbps fiber internet service, and the WiFi speeds barely hit 180 regularly. I have tested the WiFi speed by using the app, a speed test app from Ookla and a few browser speed test sites. The speed test from the app is different from the rest, I’m not positive but I think think it tests the speed from the router to the internet, not the WiFi speed to the internet but I could be wrong on that though... Unfortunately I do not have any WiFi 6 devices to test speeds on, I can only hope that those would be better. The app needs an upgrade, for the most part it is useless. The app does not provide advanced settings, what good is it if you have no access to advanced options? To get to the advanced options you need to log in through a web browser. I knew upfront there is no parental controls, but you can stop network access on each device individually through the app. There is no device prioritization nor can you direct what device connects to either the router or satellite. I also noticed no matter where I go in my house I’m device is always connected to the same satellite or router, it does not switch back and forth. You can also not direct what wifi frequency a device connects too (2.4 or 5ghz) so basically for me, the 5ghz signal gets all the traffic. WiFi strength is a bit odd when looking at the app, it shows I’m not getting full strength no matter how close to the router or satellite I am. On my devices it shows full signal strength. The product was packaged nicely and setup was for the most part easy. Maybe I over think things but I found the quick start guide to be useless. You need to use the app to set it up and it provides a walkthrough for setting up the router, satellite and then your network. However it does not help you determine proper placement of the satellite. In the end I’m not even sure if my satellite is in a good spot or not. I currently have the router in my basement and the router upstairs as close to the middle of the living room as I can, similar to the picture in the ads but not at opposite ends of the house. I personality do not think it is worth the price I paid, I would save your money or go with a tri-band unless you need mesh and WiFi 6. I think this product is highly over priced considering it is not performing as advertised.
