My family was always having issues with the outside door wall keypad not working and batteries dying. I was looking into a new keypad and saw this wifi retrofit kit! So awesome! I installed the Genie door opener so I was familiar with setup and wiring. The instructions were good and plenty of video links to help as well. The only downside is the door sensor you attach to your door has a battery that will need to replaced over time but the app shows you the battery life status bar. I created the main app account and was able to share out virtual keys to my family to access the door from the aladdin connect app and now we can all open/close the door with our phones from anywhere! You can even give out temporary guest access for limited or one time use for guests/maintenance techs, etc. You can still use the push pad inside the garage too.
- I get alerts anytime someone opens and closes the door and tells me who did it.
- You can check if the door is open or closed just by opening the app and seeing the current status
- You can setup rules to allow/deny door openings at certain times of day/night or have it close automatically at a set time at night if someone leaves the door open.

Can't stay connected to wifi

I replaced my opener through Overhead Door Company, which, unknown to me, rebrands Genie products. Big mistake. I had to buy a new wifi enabled controller (this piece of junk), which will not keep connection with the door sensor or wifi. My phone and other devices get 5 bars in my garage, but this thing simply can't stay connected even to its own door sensor where it has line of sight and is less than 30.feet away. I so wish I had done my research and gotten another Chamberlain to work with my existing MyQ devices, which never drop network connections.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
