On my second unit - same defect

Installed this compactor in September and it lasted 6 weeks before the ram crashed, got stuck, and damaged the bin. Finally managed to get the ram to go back up so the repair man could access the unit. It was determined that the rod on one side of the unit had stripped and the ram came down crooked. So 4 months later I got a new unit and used it for 2 weeks before the ram would not go down. Supposedly this unit can be repaired, but it is the same issue with the rod being stripped on one side. At least it did not damage the bin this time. I don't have high hopes that the repair will be the last one.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Seriously, right outta the box installed in our new house/kitchen and doesn’t work. Motor runs but Ram not engaging! Called for service through the proper channels and tech can’t figure it out! Geeeez

The compactor works great mechanically. I like the hands free activation provided by the foot pedal for opening the unit and activating the compaction feature. I wish there was a handle as an option for closing the unit rather than pushing against it with your hand or leg. This lack of handle gives a sleek design look but leaves the front panel in a perpetual state of smudges.

Used for a week or two and no longer crushes trash. Can hear the gears but nothing happens.

stopped working after 2 weeks.

Had it for 2 weeks, then it stopped compacting the trash. Also, my old compactor opens all the way out when pedaled down. This one doesn't open out, one has to use hand to pull it out after pedaled down.
