I have had this compactor for 5 months and the motor broke! Not repairable so waiting to hear from GE about a replacement. Hoping the new one will last longer.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Son had one and we decided to install one with kitchen remodel. Looks nice and runs great, reduces the trash volume significantly. Not too loud when running.

Just Purchased...Easy Install

I just purchased and easily installed the new UCG1500 model. Previous GE compactor crapped out after 17 years...a good run in my book. These are solid, well made units. I was surprised to see that the old unit had a metal chain drive not a rubber belt.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Warranty service within 1 week of installation

The trash compactor worked great for the first week. It complements our kitchen decor and helps us reduce our trash footprint. It was easy to use. We're hoping after the nylon bolts are replaced that we will reap the benefit of a fine kitchen appliance for years to come.
