Broke within a week

Never worked once installed. Compactor did not open by itself. One had to pull it out and then push it back in. Then the first time I tried to compact anything it got stuck and broke. Food was in it and couldn't get service in for three weeks and home smelled terribly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Smash your Trash

While it took many months to finally receive the trash compactor, we are happy with the UCG1520NSS. We were accustomed to having a handle to open the trash compactor, but we have adjusted to exclusively using the foot pedal to open the unit. The ability to "stay in the compacted" position is no longer present, but it isn't absolutely necessary. The motor has a much higher pitch than the old unit, but it appears to work. Just sounds like a little motor compared to the old one. We are happy with the compactor and would reccomend this model.

Does not compact useless

Does not compact. GE sent 2 service people, 1st one said "this model does not compact!"" so GE sent a 2nd who said maybe after using for a while it will have less tension on the spring on bottom and will compact" It is useless. Definitely, not GE quality.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love the features. It is a beautiful unit. It doesn't compact as tight as the old one. But the unit is taller so it still holds just as much. Easy to install.
