Better than most garage refrigerators

I'm fairly pleased with the GE garage refrigerator. My only complaint is when ambient termperatures are in the 40"s, the freezer doesn't get much colder than around +10 degrees, which is not nearly as cold as freezers normally get. Having said that, this is the first winter we've been able to store food in our freezer, December through February. We haven't been able to store, pizzas, or ice cream or similar items because it doesn't get below zero. That's the only reason we didn't give it 5 stars.

Our fridge is in the garage, and we live in Iowa so it's cold. The freezer temp hovers around 10 degrees F. Not really cold enough for good food storage. The refrigerator section is holding at 36 degrees F. If you buy this fridge expect to spend a lot of time stripping off the plastic wrap.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This model is considered garage-ready, but we do still have recommendations regarding the temperature of the location the refrigerator is operating in. The unit should be operated in locations with ambient temperatures between 38 degrees – 110 degrees F. If the temperature is in the colder range (38 degrees – 54 degrees F), we recommend setting the fresh food temperature control to 2 and the freezer temperature control to 5 to best maintain your food. If the ambient temperature is not within that range, the unit may not be able to maintain the proper temperatures for your food. Details regarding garage operation and temperature control are available on page 5 of the Use and Care manual, linked here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-1000478-2.pdf . It works!

Last fridge was a GE that was 30-40 years old, but freezer was manual defrost and last time it took almost a week to get down to proper temp after defrosting. Have only had this one two weeks but couldn't be happier. Besides food, we store some vaccines in it and maintaining accurate temperatures is critical. This model has separate temperature controls for both freezer and refrigerator sections and it consistently maintains plus or minus two degrees, or less, of what we want in both sections. Interior layout is also a huge improvement over the ancient one. The light gray color also seems to have been a good choice. Some reviews have talked about excessive noise, but we don't find that to be the case at all. Hopefully it'll last at least half as long as the old one.

I love my new refrigerator. While it is exactly the same size as my previous one, it is somehow more roomy in both the refrigerator and freezer sections. The layout of shelving allows me to see everything. And I love the deep shelving on the doors.
