I had got this fridge less than a year ago, and the compressor is not working now. Technician came and said it will take 21 days to get a compressor replaced.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

extremely poor design engineering

I received this Whirlpool fridge as an "energy efficiency upgrade" at no cost through a local promotional program, replacing my former fridge which was made by Frigidaire in 2011. There were no issues with my old fridge, other than it being a bit older. It was functioning well and suited my needs well. This new fridge has MANY annoying features (or lack thereof) which I will list starting with what I consider to be "design" flaws .. (1) very limited adjustments of main / glass shelves. (2) no 'spill safe' edging around shelves. Only two pieces of trim on the front and rear edge only, leaving the sides incapable of containing any spillage. (3) bottom glass shelf does not fully extend to the very back of the fridge, rendering the space at the back virtually useless since it is on a significant tilt of 3 or 4 degrees downward. (4) No adjustment whatsoever of door storage compartments. Their configuration is permanently fixed. Storage of tall items such as milk or OJ cartons is difficult if not impossible. As a matter of fact, a 4 L jug of cranberry juice will fit NOWHERE inside the entire fridge whether on the door or on a shelf. (5) door storage compartments are extremely small in size. (6) door storage compartment bottom surface is sloping downward at a 1 or 2 degree angle causing items stored there to be insecure and tipsy. (6) door storage bin retaining barriers are very thin in height and located far too low to effectively serve their purpose. Because of this, many taller and/or top heavy items will actually fall out onto the floor when the door is opened normally, sometimes even if the door is opened very 'gently'. There is also a gap of 1 inch or so between each retaining barrier and the bottom surface of each storage bin, rendering them absolutely useless to hold thin items such as chocolate bars, ketchup packs etc or anything else thin enough to slide under and through this gap. (7) crisper air vent humidity adjustment is completely nullified due to a very large gap being present at the front top edge of the drawer where it meets against the shelf above. Obviously, air will circulate through this gap regardless of air vent setting. (8) in terms of the freezer, there is the same design problem with the door storage retaining barriers .. too thin, located too low, and also the gap at the bottom. (9) freezer bottom surface or floor has a very prominent and large protrusion along the front edge, making the replacement of ice cube trays very difficult when filled with fresh / liquid water. Spillage occurs because trays must be tilted in order to clear this protrusion. The issues I've listed, above, are design engineering flaws or shortcomings. And in my opinion they certainly cannot be overlooked.
In terms of "quality control" or manufacturing flaws.. (1) the fridge and freezer handles are made of plastic, and have a very cheap feel and look to them. They are made with a sort of rough texture to them rather than smooth and polished, which I believe will create cleaning issues on an ongoing basis. Strength and durability also fall into question. (2) exterior door gaps and door alignment is very poor. (3) rubber door seals appear to be very thin gauge rubber material, which has many inconsistencies and creates smaller voids. (4) the exterior top surface of the fridge itself is extremely "bowed up" towards the middle. I suspect this may be due to the use of sprayed-in foam insulation and the resulting expansion.
To be fair ... as far as the mechanical performance of the fridge to date (1 week), it seems adequate. Interior temperature remains constant and the compressor seems quiet.
In summary, due to the numerous shortcomings with design and quality control, I would highly recommend AGAINST purchasing this fridge. The flaws are so annoying and un-reconcilable that I would definitely urge any other prospective purchasers to take a hard pass on this one. It might serve its purpose as a secondary garage or beer fridge, but that's about all.
I'm a firm believer in "never look a gift horse in the mouth". And I'm truly appreciative of the generosity of others who are simply trying to help. However, if I had paid cash for this fridge it would definitely be returned IMMEDIATELY for another, less annoying and better designed unit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This Fridge is a Frustration From Start to Finish
on April 9, 2024

Don't be fooled by the "energy efficiency upgrade" label! This Whirlpool fridge is a prime example of how new doesn't always equal better. Here's why you should steer clear of this model:
Flawed Design: Forget about customizing your fridge for your needs. The poorly designed shelves and lack of adjustable door compartments make efficient storage nearly impossible. Even a simple 4L jug of juice can't find a home! Cheap Build Quality: This fridge looks and feels cheap, with plastic handles and questionable door alignment. Thin rubber seals and a bowed exterior raise concerns about long-term durability. Food Spoilage Nightmare: The faulty crisper drawer air vent and uneven freezer temperature can wreak havoc on your groceries, leading to spoilage and wasted money – especially with today's high food prices. Loud Operation: This fridge isn't exactly the quiet achiever. Prepare to be annoyed by constant humming and rattling sounds. This is a downgrade, not an upgrade! Where's the well-built, reliable fridge of the past? This model is an insult to Canadian consumers, especially those struggling to afford groceries.
Save your money, your sanity, and your food! Look elsewhere for a fridge that actually functions effectively and offers features that make your life easier, not harder.

Mostly Loving This Fridge
on February 13, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This being our first new fridge in at least 15 years, things seem a bit more complicated. I think we have the temperature controls adjusted finally, and we are working on getting organized using bins because this fridge is deeper. We have one tiny irritation- the door won't stay open- but otherwise we are loving this refrigerator. It's roomy, the shelving is a very clean design, lots of room in the door, and my partner is really pleased with the freezer being on top.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased a home through Habitat for Humanity and this was the fridge that came with the home. It is a standard fridge, that seems to keep the temps well. My only dislike about the fridge is that the door opens all the way and there is no safety setting - where the door could literally open until it hits the wall. This makes me nervous each time I open it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Moisture collects inside, dripping. Just like my old fridge. Switched temp to lower because veggies were getting frozen in the middle of the chamber. Not really happy with that brand new fridge...

Whirlpool 30” Wide Top Freezer Refrigerator

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this fridge towards the end of May and am very happy with it. I had to replace my 13 year old Maytag bottom freezer fridge because the condescending died. I originally wanted a different Whirlpool fridge but wouldn’t have been able to get it until July due to Covid and the shutdown at the Whirlpool plant in Michigan. I was told this model, the one I ended up purchasing was similar. It is a bit loud sometimes but for the most part I don’t notice the noise. I wish the shelves were a little more adjustable but other than those two things, it gets the job done and I am quite happy with it!!
I would recommend this to a friend!
