Short battery life + not for cold weather

I really thought this collar was a perfect solution for my black dog at night. It worked great at first-- I LOVE the color-changing Disc-O mode. Unfortunately, I've found that the runtime of the collar between charges has been drastically reduced after a little over a year. I understand that rechargeable batteries can only recharge for so many cycles before they lose their capacity to hold as much of a charge, but I expected this to perform for much longer than it has... especially considering I have a Nite Ize bug light that is at least a decade old and still going strong.
Additionally, I've found the collar less than ideal for cold and dark winters, which was the primary reason for my purchase. The "adjustable" design, specifically, does not perform as intended in colder climates. In cold weather, the plastic tubular collar does not stay stuck in the rubber sleeve containing the LED. This means the collar detaches from the light source and falls off my dog entirely with just a bit of movement, like when he shakes snow off himself or the leash bumps the collar. I can't even count the number of times I've had to tromp through the snowy woods at night to retrieve this collar after it fell off him.
I'm really bummed about this collar's performance because I love the concept and the colors are so fun. I bought this at a local pet shop and don't have proof of purchase to utilize Nite Ize's "worry-free guarantee". I recommend buying online and/ or keeping your receipt just in case the collar you get has the same performance issues. Also, if you have a dog with longer fur, you might want to try a flat light-up collar because this one can become hidden in fur very easily. At the time/ place of my purchase, the NiteHowl Max was not available and I'm curious if the shape of that collar might prevent the issues I've had with cold-weather performance.

Only reason for 4 stars is because the charge port cover is loose and not attached to the necklace. It was lost after my dog's first time wearing and now I'm afraid of it getting wet.
Aside from that, it's AMAZING. The most vibrant and bright colored light. He can't hide from us even if he wanted to.

I love this collar for my old Golden Retriever as we walk at night. But I’m old too and not too techy so was confused how to recharge it. I had excellent customer service and also appreciate the sustainability consciousness of the company.

Loved this for walking at night, especially on rainy and foggy nights, until it started fritzing out and then after only 3 weeks, stopped working. Maybe the rain was too much for it. We tried to repair it but the lights seem to be broken.

Just a month in use - so far very, very good. Very bright and visible, easy on and off. Seems well made. THE REAL TEST will come this spring and summer when our border collie is in and out of our irrigation ditches every day. Hope they handle the exposure to water. ALSO--we had 10 degrees and they still worked good. Hope that holds for our below zero temps. in the winter. Thinking optimistically! At this point in our experience we would recommend purchase!

Not recharging.

I bought this a couple of months ago and used it twice. After the second use it no longer recharges.
