A Perfect Homage

With the shift to 8-stud wide construction this year Lego has achieved greater accuracy and realism with the cars they portray, more than ever before. Speed Champions has a great track record of variety with the cars they choose but for me personally, this was an absolute dream come true. It cannot be overstated how much respect was shown in replicating this rally legend. The proportions to the real car are so spot on. The higher price point with these new models, at least based off this one, is more than justified. But I do love this car deeply and there is a clear bias there. Bravo Lego, for the people this model was aimed for, it shows nothing short of the highest respects, here's hoping something else from the Group B era crops up further down the line~

Lego hit a HOME RUN!

Seriously, WOW!
I went out and purchased the Audi, Ferrari, and GTR and built them back to back when I got home.
I can’t tell you how much fun I had building these. The new base plates, new building pieces, new techniques, gear selectors, emergency brake handles, center consoles and SEATING FOR TWO!
Slightly more expensive, but you definitely get a better quality build and final product.
Bravo Lego!

Great Rally Car
on January 6, 2020

When I saw that they were making the 1980s Audi Quattro I was super excited to purchase it. It’s a legendary car in the rally world one of the first to effectively use 4WD and dominate the sport making an estimated 500hp+ which even by today’s standards in a 2.1L in-line 5 is still amazing. Now then after some history let’s get to the build I was happy to see some of the body detailing was printed on the bricks but too bad not the majority. But the completed set definitely looks just like the boxy wide fender real thing. Another great Lego iteration of a classic car. Only issue is now the Speed Champions cars are wider why not 14.99 anymore and can accommodate two seated minifigure’s (which is a plus especially this set that the racer would have a co-pilot, only one figure in this set though) but if you have been collecting the previous Speed Champions ones this now looks out of place and not as Lego like as before which also were a tribute to the designer to make the car look just right but making it a one minifigure seater as in most Lego sets. Still a great set and fun to build an still recommend it but it will have to find a new spot on the self for it to sit. Happy building!

Cool car but minifigure has issues fitting

Great car To build but I had to raise the arms of minifigure to get it to fit in. Seems very cramped compared to other models.

Love the speed champions line up and this is a great addition. Looks great and is a very nice size little larger than the older sets but fits in great with the GTR. No complaints the color scheme is great and looks awesome.

So awesome

I have LOVED this car since I watched the Group B racing in the 80's (yes I'm that old and still play with LEGO). This was a very good representation of the real car. Great build. Having played and build LEGO sets since the late 70's, this was, at least for me, an easy build. I still loved every second of it though. I love this set as well. Every step of the way I could slowly see it taking shape. The only thing that could make it better was if it had the turbo chirp there as well, oh, and a Technic version!!!!

Great Looking Rally Car
on January 11, 2020

I'm so happy to see Lego releasing rally cars in the Speed Champions series. Compared to last year's Ford Fiesta WRC, I really like the larger size of this one, especially how there's enough room to fit a co-driver inside the car. The amount of detail in the bigger model is great, and I love how it looks.
But Lego really missed an opportunity here: If any race car set should come with a female driver, it should be this one! This is the car that French rally driver Michèle Mouton raced at Pikes Peak in 1985, where she won the event outright and set the course record. It would have been really cool to have her as a minifig in this set. I'll just have to swap some driver parts from another set to make this one perfect.
