Family Taxes

Generally very good, but had some hiccups this year with hot-buttons by-passing employers I wanted to work on.
What's great about it: Raises issues I wouldn't have thought of. Remembers personal info from year to year. Positive, encouraging, optimistic.
What's not so great: Tedious at times, unnecessary questions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax is Great!
on March 8, 2019

I've been using TurboTax since 1988. My taxes now are very simple, but years ago when I had rent property, owner-financed property sales, and amortization of company assets, I used TurboTax. Always makes the process easy and understandable.
What's great about it: Quick and thorough
What's not so great: NONE

Just Say NO to Estimated Tax Forms
on March 8, 2019
Posted by: TonyTheTiger01
There needs to be a Check Box that says DO NOT print he Estimated Tax Forms. I have not used them in over 20 years, but when I select to print my Taxes these forms are included. Wasting 4 pages of paper every year for something that is not a part of my tax return is uncalled for.
What's great about it: It was easy to use
What's not so great: Wasted 4 pages again on Estimated Tax Forms

Delete K-1's very stressful and unclear
on March 8, 2019

The instructions on how to delete a K-1 that was in a previous year but is closed for this years filings is difficult and very unclear on how to do it. Although I selected on last years return it was the final submission it still required me to file it again with this years taxes. The instructions are very convoluted and difficult to understand when trying to delete that form. It also doesn't allow the return to be E-Filed until that issue is resolved. With the account (K-1) closed in the previous year it makes you unable to file your return. I had to force the issue by entering the information from the previous years K-1 (which is incorrect because the account has been closed) to be able to finalize my return and submit it by E-Filing. Because of these issues I believe I may just use a tax preparation company for future years tax preparations
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

So Totally Easy & Professional
on March 8, 2019

I have used TurboTax over 20 years and ALWAYS satisfied. But this year they ask for all kinds of information for the personal exemption. After spending 4+ hours gathering the info, and keying it in, up pops a message that says the new 2018 tax law no longer allows for these deductions. Why not tell us that before we go through all that work?????
What's great about it: By guiding the user through the process, anyone can be confident they will file an accurate return.
What's not so great: Why ask about personal deductions when they are not used?

could be better

I ran TT's taxable income through the 2018 brackets manually and got a very different answer. There's no table I can look at to see how TT made it's tax calculation.
What's great about it: better than pencil and paper
What's not so great: no explanation on how tax computed
