i’ve been shopping for a monitor since the wildfires last year but couldn’t decide. after doing a lot more research this year, i finally decided on the IQ Air and i’m so glad i did. set up was simple and the interface is incredibly intuitive. i love that it gives the AQI forecast and tells me what the outdoor air quality in my area is like as well as letting me know what it’s like indoors. i also love that the app lets me see what the air quality is like indoors when i’m away (comes in handy when we forget to turn on the range hood). i would definitely it and am considering purchasing the outdoor monitor as well.

I so appreciate being able to easily keep track of the level of particulates in the air at home. It helps me learn which activities tend to elevate the amount of particulate matter and thus helps me adjust my behavior accordingly. The user interface is easy to understand and use.

Made a big difference in my life

I was concerned about the air quality in our house because of woodsmoke from neighbours. Woodsmoke contains fine particulates and these pass through the lungs and into the blood stream where they cause inflammation and plaque in the arteries that can lead to cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. Having had a heart attack, I wanted to protect myself from these fine particulates. Getting an IQAir monitor made a big difference in my life. I found I could keep PM levels low in the house with a good whole house air filter on our HVAC, even when readings for PM2.5 (particles that are 2.5 microns in size, a size measured by governments to determine air quality, or lack thereof) were high. Not knowing what the levels were caused anxiety and stress. Now, I can see the levels and feel more confident and relaxed. The monitor also shows CO2 (carbon monoxide) levels and I chose this unit in part for that feature. Keeping PM out of the house is one thing, but you need ventilation - i.e. bring air in from the outdoors. So it is a bit of a balancing act. Bring in air but keep out PM. I can't use a carbon filter as I am allergic to carbon (which is in woodsmoke too), so need to ventilate when PM levels are low outside. I can take the IQAir outdoors as it has a battery backup and get a reading. Surprisingly, there are times when the air smells good but the PM2.5 is fairly high, and times when it smells bad and PM2.5 is not very high. Without the monitor, I would not know. As a test, I placed the monitor in our bedrooms at night and found that CO2 levels got to a moderately unhealthy level, so ran the furnace fan 24/7 to circulate air in the house, pulling CO2 out of the bedrooms at night, and blowing in fresher air from the rest of the house through the HVAC ducts. Now sleeping levels of CO2 are healthy. We sleep better and feel more rested. I have learned from using the monitor that when I start feeling the air quality is getting stuffy and stale, CO2 is around 700 ppm. I can now judge that level without looking at the monitor. That is when I need to get more ventilation.

I live in Pennsylvania and our air quality at times is dangerous. Our government officials don't can about our health. So, I have two of these devices in my house and probably will purchase another for outside. My only complaint is I wish IQAir offered a protective enclosure for outdoor placement of their products.

Knowing airquality outdoors & in, let’s me fine tune our training plan, with our best health in mind.
This has been helpful for our family. We discovered that our CO2 levels tend to be high, so we know pay attention to bringing fresh air in. Thankfully, our outdoor air quality is good where we live. At least for the time period we've had our unit.
