Love this!

I love how accurate this monitor is. I know when to open the windows to reduce my CO2 levels (I cook with gas). I had no idea just how high the CO2 and ppms got from pan frying meat on my gas stove. It gives me such peace of mind to know when my air quality is in the healthy range.

This monitor provides the air quality index for inside and outside air. It has inside and outside temperature readings, inside humidity, inside carbon dioxide level with a graph showing these levels for the past 12 hours. Different screen views which highlight the information that is most important to you are available. A screen saver option is provided. The User Manual is easy to read and has valuable information about pollution and carbon dioxide. The app has local and world wide air quality index information. I highly recommend this product if you are concerned about your inside air and the air quality of your area and the world.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The only comment I have is hat the AQI for my location is not the same as the city i live in. It's slightly different and when I look at the map I cannot tell which station is being represented on my monitor.

Locality matters for healthy air.

I purchased the AirVisual Pro to help monitor my newly purchased IQAir HealthPro +. This is an excellent pairing since the Airvisual Pro has both outside and inside air quality displays. It does display the AQI for a weather station located about four blocks from my house. This is important because I live in a hills and canyons city in the San Francisco Bay Area, so local weather varies considerably.
The inside reading allows me to change the speed setting for the HealthPro + as necessary to ensure a healthy environment inside the house. What a wonderful combination.

Reasonable

I bought this several months ago. It was a decent device until recently CO2 analyzer got a glitch with readings jumping from 500-1,000 to 2,000-2,500 range even though there were no obvious or significant changes in heating or weather conditions.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi there,

Thank you for leaving us your feedback.

We’d love a chance to investigate the spike in carbon dioxide that you experienced while using your AirVisual Pro, but we need a bit more information.

Did you have a large number of people in your home during this carbon dioxide spike? People and animals exhale carbon dioxide as a natural function of respiration, so if you had many guests over and your living spaces had insufficient air exchange with the outdoors, the carbon dioxide level could have spiked.

We’d love to learn more about the factors that may have contributed to this spike. Feel free to give us a call at (888) 560-1020, M-F, 8am – 4:30pm PST.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Good air tester

This is a good air tester. It makes the reality of air quality issues apparent and urgent. For the price I wish it could read VOC content of the air.

Sensitive to the Air Quality.

Good product overall! Charger was fried however with the slightest of contact with water. This device is not suitable for outdoor use unless its super well sheltered. Does the job well. Functionality of the buttons is poor and could easily be a cheap touch screen for the price of the product. Overall, the Air Quality node is satisfactory.

Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to review your AirVisual Pro.

You are correct, the AirVisual Pro is indeed suitable for outdoor use, but you must ensure that it’s housed in a shelter that protects it from rain, wind, and direct sunlight with natural airflow. For some suggestions and tips on safely housing your AirVisual Pro, please give us a call at (888) 560-1020, M-F, 8AM – 4:30PM PST.

To address your other point, the large LCD screen is beneficial for prominently displaying clear, easy-to-read AQI numbers and other relevant air quality data without having to access an app on a mobile device. The AirVisual Pro features a button interface to provide a simplified user experience while keeping its LCD screen clean and fingerprint-free.

Slick UI, responsive sensors, some concerns

The IQAir AirVisual Pro has a beautiful, high-resolution display, a refined and approachable user interface, and a usable companion Android app. Human interactions with the device are about as intuitive as possible, given that the device has only four hard buttons and no touchscreen. The companion app is a convenient means of viewing current and historical readings from anywhere, even when the device's screen is off.
I have no way of judging the accuracy of the readings, but I will say that the device is very responsive to changing environmental conditions. Strike a match on the other side of the room, and the device's PM readings react as soon as the particles can diffuse across the room to it. Open a window, and the readings immediately begin to fall. I am very impressed with the responsiveness of the PM meter, even when it is not set in "continuous" measurement mode, which I actually haven't found a need for since the default measurement mode is so responsive.
My concerns are the same as my concerns with many/most "Internet of Things" devices: namely, that much of the device's functionality is highly dependent upon the continued existence and operation of the company's servers. If IQAir ever goes out of business or decides to stop supporting the AirVisual Pro, then the usefulness of the device will be strongly negatively impacted. I would like to see a proper local API for taking readings from the device directly via the LAN. It could be JSON-RPC over HTTP or even something as basic as SNMP, just some way of triggering the device to take a measurement and some way of retrieving the most recent measurement that doesn't depend on IQAir. I am aware of the Samba server in the device, which is why I didn't give a lower rating, but that's not really an API.
My other wish for this device would be to have a single screen where *all* sensor readings are displayed in one place, just as text with no cutesy graphics. The device evidently measures PM10 concentrations in addition to PM2.5 but doesn't display those measurements anywhere in the UI, so that would be a welcome addition as well.
I should mention that the first device I received (purchased directly from IQAir) was defective: it powered up only once to a black (but illuminated) screen, and after being turned off, it never turned on again. IQAIr, to their credit, sent me a replacement and a return shipping label free of charge, and the replacement has performed like a champ.
