As for the methodology used and the quality of the interrogatories in developing the appropriate tax forms, I found the Premium desktop software to be quite good. Compared to my years of use of Turbotax Deluxe, I honestly thought the process more intuitive and accurate in identifying my key data for purposes of composing the 1040. The product, however, receives an average rating due to huge failure--I never could download my 1099's from Schwab's online site. I had to manually enter my capital gains and losses, in aggregate format, which enhanced the possibility of errors, and engendered greater difficulty in determining how to enter several stock transactions. Mind you, my Schwab financial consultant, a Sr. VP, linked me with his assigned IT fellow, but to no avail. Schwab IT established to my satisfaction that H&R Block had a "known" interlinkage problem with Schwab's websites, wholly unrelated to the customer's systems, but H&R Block simply was not correcting the coding problem on its end. I expended over a day trying absolutely everything that both Schwab IT and Block IT proposed, but the 1099 transfers always failed because Block would not link-up with Schwab's website. The failure also existed with Block's online product. After opening a Case No. and extensive interaction with Block's IT staff, Block's solution was (1) enter the stock trading data manually or (2) pay several hundred dollars for one of its "Expert Pros" to prepare and file my tax forms on my behalf. Neither proposed solution was palatable, but I chose the former and the forms have been successfully filed.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've used Turbo tax, but have used H&R for past few years. The prompts and questionnaire portion of the program is pretty solid. The main issue I have each year is navigation between the actual forms. If I finally get to the form I want, there should be links to RELATED forms, eg links to forms that generate numbers I'm seeing on the current page I'm looking at.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Hard to prepare

My First Time Using H&R Block Software

This is the FIRST time that I used H&R Block software having heretofore used TurboTax software. I quickly ran into difficulties with this software because it functions very differently from TurboTax. I also had a hard time seeing the information in this software because it wasn't as bright as TurboTax. So, please consider brightening the colors in H&R Block software for the next tax year. I eventually started to understand how this software interacts with the user and so I was able to complete my 2025 taxes.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased this software since it would run on Windows 10 and TurboTax would not I was satisfied with the performance and the ability to transfer 2024 information from TurboTax to H&R Block. This type of software advertises five free efiles However, it is only five electronic files whether you pay for them or not. Five limit is set by the government it should be disclosed in the advertising.
