This software got the job done, but the user interface is frustrating. There were several places where I wanted to understand what was behind the calculation - when the final form had a number I wasn’t expecting - but there was no way to click through to the math or rationale. Another example: on the main “Deductions” menu page, they show the topics but don’t provide a dollar figure to indicate whether any deduction has already been calculated in that section. This UI could be a lot more user-friendly.

I was able to complete my 2025 taxes; however, I experienced several glitches in the system. It populated a form, which I had never used in the past and did not need, with a zero value. I had to delete the form before filing. I gave me a message that I couldn't file because the IRS was not ready to accept certain worksheets. The worksheets were not part of the official return, so I filed anyway. When I filed, it gave me a message the file was corrupt and that it repaired the file. After filing it displays that I have an AGI of zero. Fortunately, I checked with IRS and state, and both filings went through OK.
Pros: Easy to prepare

I've been using this product for over 10 years. 2025 tax software seems particularly buggy. The form will ask whether I have been an Ohio resident the whole year, when I click YES, it does not actually actually fill the begin and end date of local residence in the form. This triggers an error later. Also, there is an issue with the handling with dependents' info (SSN and birthday). If info was initially typed in incorrectly, it is difficult to change it. Especially as it relates to the dependents available for the new Trump accounts. I have had to manually change my children's info multiple times to make sure it printed on the actual document properly. You need some better Quality Control of this software before you send it out to the market. If I didnt carefully check the outcome myself, I would have sent my taxes in with the wrong SSN for my son. That would have been a pain to deal with.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast

I have used TurboTax for years, but switched to H&R Block for my 2025 return. What a mistake. The Block software is not as intuitive as as TurboTax, online help is nonexistent, and trying to enter data directly into the forms is difficult. Most disturbing is that when I had it import data -1099 D, 1099 R, etc - from my brokerage accounts, it was a disaster. The data was placed in incorrect fields or, in one case, it incorrectly listed an account in my wife’s name. Never again
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am greatly disappointed. I have used this program for many years and appreciate the ease of filling in my information and promptly e-filing. This year, however, their seems to be a glitch in the software edition and I have been unable to get it resolved. One of the forms necessary for my taxes prevents me from filing electronically - according to the program. I also helped a family member with their taxes. They didn't need the form that kept me from filing electronically, but their federal taxes would not file electronically either. The rejection said the "one-time" pin they were to select was wrong. The rejection notice directed them to the IRS website to request an IP Pin, which they did. The IP Pin could not used with the Tax Cut program as this program has no place for the IP Pin which is more digits than the PIN space. I buy this program EVERY year for the ease in preparing and submitting my taxes. The software is promoted with "5 Free E-Files". The program is non-refundable, which I understand, but not when the e-file feature isn't functioning. I would be happy to update this review if H&R Block works this out.

Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
