I have been using H & R Block tax software for years and keep going back to it because it is so user friendly. I am a real estate agent so considered self-employed. Once you enter your profession, it guides you through all of the deductions a real estate agent may possibly have. Very helpful

Great price - Quick operation - Dress it up a bit

I am a first time user of H&R Block having always used Turbo Tax. A lot of my review will be a comparison to Turbo Tax which will be valuable to you. First you are priced right. That is what drove me to you. Turbo Tax is way overpriced. I really appreciated the very short time it takes your program to update. It is such a winner over Turbo Tax in that area which takes forever. You have a great system to jump from one work area to another. I like that.
Where you could use improvement: Mainly in the visual presentation. It is very plain with small print. Dress it up and enlarge the print. Make it more attractive. Right now it looks more like an accountant's program.

Software Stole My E-File Code - Made Me Pay Twice

I've been using this tax software for more than a decade and have usually been satisfied. Not this year. After prepping my taxes and clicking the button to e-file, your software decided it needed to do another update. In the process of doing this, you took my free e-file code and used it, but didn't file my taxes. After the update when I tried to e-file, it said my code had already been used. It had not since the e-file didn't go through because of the software update. I had to pay a separate fee to e-file. Maybe next year we try TurboTax.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

In the past three years, I haven't been able to use your software on my newest computer with Windows 11.
I had to use an old computer. I have reported the issue, and nobody seems to know why, and there is no positive answer from your tech people. It is a shame that a company like yours, has no answers and solutions to a simple problem.

The program would not allow me to file an accurate return. It autofilled a zero in a space that needed to be filled in. I called the support line and was instructed to delete the form and start over. I did this, but again the form autofilled a zero. I called again and was told that I could override the zero, but the form could not be filed electronically! I was forced to file an extension. As I want to file electronically, I will have to start over with TurboTax or another program.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

In general, I have been satisfied with the product. This year I wanted to file an amendment for 2023 and 2024 for my NJ taxes. I was disappointed that I could not do it within the software as it directed me to the government site to print the NJ 1040X forms and fill them out manually.
Secondly, the change I made was to reflect % of my dividends in treasury (on the Federal side) which reflected the dividends correctly for NJ state and gave me the amended data. When I tried to remove the % data on the Federal dividends page to go back to the original set-up, it did not carry back into the State return.????
