Interview has a lot of unclear questions and the help is not much help. Example: I indicate single no dependants at the very beginning and yet later questions ask about family coverage.

I have been using the programs for years and generally I am happy with them. This year where I had to do Federal and two States there were some challenges, I felt forgotten. The primary one was how to pay a state tax. The program lead me no where nor in my search was it mentioned. I had to go into that State's Department to find a means to pay my tax.

Due to the software not being able to reconcile and issue between my 2024 and 2025 tax statements the software would not allow me to send the tax information online. I had to print my tax information and mail it. No matter what I did following the reconciliation help screens the software would not reconcile. Looks like turbo tax next time.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've been using this since 2009 and it gets worse each year. The interview keeps getting more and more basic. There are less guide prompts about forms or double checks for commonly missed items. There are just screens with huge checklists of random selections without any explanation, prompt, or guide as to what they are, except for a disclaimer of "uncommon" here and there, which implies the others could be common. When you ask for help it simply points to IRS documents. If I wanted to read those publications I would not use software at all. I question whether the "accuracy check" does anything other than see if checkboxes in the interview have a corresponding entry on the form. It selects random valid entries such as PFL selections and does not remember that you cleared them. It did not apply any logic to the check, for example I accidentally added a place to a withholding which made the withholding more than the income itself, I realize that is my error, but it makes no sense and that's the kind of thing I would think would be looked for. I am certain pervious versions flagged these things with "are you sure?" You now also have to complete the entire interview again if you make a change to one section of it. For example I needed to add an amount to my cash receipts on schedule C and had to go through the whole process of all income again to do that.

I find it's easier to navigate the program online. Which by doing online program I would have owed less, but it would have been a larger expense to use rather than buying the program and installing it. Should be the other way around when navigating the program.

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

There are inaccuracies and confusion abounding. If you need help, good luck! After spending 70$ +, I found “Help Center” limited to a menu of FAQs and AI Help totally useless, ticking button did nothing. Asking for tech help I got a cha with someone arguing with me about if I had actually paid for the program even after I offered the receipt. They terminated the chat! The interviews have a lot of confusing terminology such as was there any capital loss carry forward for this year? It should have just carried the loss forward automatically instead of Making taxpayers keep a separate report. Figuring Basis for an exchange is really obscure. I had to make corrections 3x. I would NOT rely on HRB deluxe to properly do taxes for Investing, instead, use it for convenience of entry and subscribe to Chat GTP for your tax advisor.
