For years I've used H&R Block software to prepare my taxes before going to a professional (I have rental property and own home and stocks). This was done in order to be better prepared and organized. I have learned that the final results were almost identical with my long time preparer, that had retired two years ago. Last year the new tax service was so disappointing (pressure to maximize profits by rushing and cutting the corners) that this year I have decided to fill my taxes by myself. The software is very clear, easy to navigate, and the help is available when needed.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

2018 was finished late this week. Trying to download & activate 2019. Continual password problems & resets that don't work.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

H&R Block prompts me to look into areas of potential write-offsthat I wouldn't have on my own. An accountant could do this too of course, but this software is so much cheaper.
