no screen allowing input for Qualified Charitable Donations in 2025. There was in 2024.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

Very disappointed that I couldn’t import 1099 data from my financial institution. After being told twice that it would be fixed with the next HR software update I gave up and entered it manually. I’ll be using another brand of tax preparation software next year.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents

Certainly not a perfect program for complex returns, but probably the best of the common general tax preparation programs. In complex situations, it tries to exactly replicate IRS worksheets and instructions, which is a bad thing. IRS can't write something simple and clear to save their lives. The result is you may sometimes getting misleading or poorly identified information in the course of preparation. Simple returns should probably not even need this level of program. Since this is the more advanced and costly program, IMO, they should spend more time eliminating confusion on comnplex situations and calculations.
Navigation within the program could be easier if they thought like users with experience, rather than designing like either IRS, or presupposing every user is going to exactly use their interview program and will enjoy going through all the agonizing screens. It's especially tedious if you enter part of your information and have waited on more data, then have to enter information received later.
And playing with "what if" examples, such as gauging the impact of a SEP or IRA contribution, is maddening.
At this price, it should give you a simple next-year projection where you can easily edit inputs. I saw no such option, and apologize if I missed it.
Their price has gone up significantly during the last two or three years. And absolutely no one likes the hidden back-end extra charge to file the state return electronically.
I give it 7 out of 10, which is better than competitors., but there is room for improvement.
Cons: Time consuming

At the end, ready to e-file federal state the program would not let me because it needed to update. That update process was an Endless loop I needed to save work before the update. Left me to believe that I was risking having to do my taxes it all over again. I suggest they do a little bit more testing because I was not happy with the fear that endless loop created.
