Generally easy to use but support was not as helpful as I would hope. They seemed less versed in the issue than I am.
In the future, please add CA 568 to your state program.
Pros: Easy to prepare

HR Block, please make a couple of things simpler!

I have used HR Block software for about a decade now. My taxes are complicated due to owning a couple of duplexes and mutual fund investments. I have complained in the past about a couple things which remain difficult. I am rating it three stars because of these same two complaints:
1) I do a back door Roth IRA every year. Without someone who thankfully posts on the internet how to answer the questions in HR Block software to do this, I would almost surely get it wrong. HR Block should have a question "Did you do a back door Roth IRA" and if the answer is yes, create a series of questions that someone without tax knowledge so as to can properly populate the two separate sections of the 1040 properly. 2) I have enough international mutual funds that my foreign tax exceeds the criteria thereby requiring me to fill out an additional form/schedule. It is not as complicated as the backdoor Roth in HR Block software but I can't believe HR Block can't add a few questions for folks in my situation (I have to believe this is not that uncommon) to simplify the populating process of the tax forms and avoid mistakes.

State Tax Program Lacking for Multi State Filings

The Idaho State Version: Program needs to allow for when state taxes are paid to multiple states. The current program only allows input for just 1 other state tax payment. If you have 3 states that have tax payments, the program only allows consideration for your home state and 1 other state.
Consequently it requires a manually prepared Schedule 39R to be completed and attached, then mailed in vs being to electronically submit the return. Very frustrating and very limiting for something that the program should be able to handle.

The good: it does the job of walking you through the IRS tax process, without the need to hire a tax professional.
The bad: you have to buy the "premium" version just to submit a 1099. That's ridiculous. Also, it doesn't make it easy to see a list of your entries so you can review them.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents
