It works okay but I wish it was more flexible. It takes a number of clicks to move between the interview and the actual form. Some windows it shows always stay at the front of the screen even if Block is no longer the active application, so the window has to be moved manually -- an unnecessary pain. And it would be nice if printing the return as a PDF immediately gave you the option of printing it out to look like the tax forms themselves and not the e-file format which is much harder to follow when looking at previous-years' returns.
And every year it seems there's some calculation or entry I did not make that gets flagged by the software during the review: this year it was Social Security income received though I responded during the interview that I did not receive SS income this year.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

I am a long time user of another tax preparation software package. After issues with that other company, I decided to try H&R Block. For my 2024 tax return, it handled it well. It asked all the appropriate questions and seems to have prepared the return properly. My son has different tax situation and we proceeded through the process. It was more difficult and I apparently mistyped an entry, but was able to identify and remedy the entry. We didn't have a clear confident feeling, but we reviewed the return and we're satisfied. When we tried to use the tax planning portion for 2025, it was a disaster. We stopped and exited. Time for a human to plan for him.
Pros: Easy to prepare

I bought this program last year. Since then, I have kept getting emails about buying it with a discount. Why?
The program is good, except for some items you still need to go through even though you don't need it. For example, I know I don't have enough deductions to make a difference, yet I'm forced to go through the screens anyway. You need to be able to pick either standard deduction or itemized deduction. I use the program to do taxes for my kids. On accuracy check there are some items that need correcting that, in my opinion, should have been caught while filling out the form.
